I'm hoping to get out to the woods hunting in a couple weeks for the first time this year. It's been crazy with my work schedule to make it out. The only thing I have accomplished thus far is a couple scouting drone flights checking deer numbers. The ag fields have all been cut as of this past weekend so it'll be interesting to see what the deer actually do. I have felt over the years that as soon as those fields are cut that within the first couple weeks the deer are pretty much gone for the rest of the season.

I haven't even put a single camera out this season. Work has kept me busy since the beginning of July. When I finally make it out it'll be what it is and I'll bring home whatever gives me joy. If it's a doe or a booner makes no difference to me lol.

Seems we currently have plenty of doe to choose from according to drone footage. Now I just have to get myself in the woods and wait for one without yearlings to walk by lol

I was referring to waiting for a lone doe. I'd take whatever one that made my stomach growl.

Gotcha.
I try not to shoot a doe if it has yearlings. Did that one time and that fawn grew to be a pain in the ass for several years. She would bust guys in the stand every single time. I know of myself and 2 others that had issues with her and could never get a shot at her.

Like Brock always says: all the fun of hunting without the mess.

It's not my buck but it's still an exciting moment to find one and see the look on the hunters face.

It's not my hunt or my buck but it was fun to go find him. A dog wouldn't have been able to do what I did today. Hunter shot a buck last evening and wanted to see if it was dead or alive. Found it pretty quick and turned out to be alive and well. With the number of deer in this CRP field and being where the field was, I believe a dog and people stomping around would have pushed everything out of there including the buck in question. I flew overhead and not a single deer gave it another thought. Found the buck with about a dozen doe and a couple smaller bucks spread out sunning themselves. The hunter will have another chance at this buck if he chooses to do so.

The shot was a quartering to and if you look closely, you can see the entrance wound on the side of the neck.

Still haven't made it to the woods for a hunt this season. I should be able to get out for gun season.

Very cool , from some other posts I've seen on here both ways (drones vs dogs) play their part. They both provide vital services . One is not better than the other both are equal in the service they provide it just depends on the specific situation . Hats off to you guys for the services you provide. I'm glad you were able to give that hunter his definite answer. You guys putting your services in front of your own quests are awesome . Good luck during gun season!

I whole heartily agree that each has their time and place and one isn't necessarily better then the other. It's definitely been fun and I don't mind putting my season on the back burner if I can help someone else get their deer.

Once he moved around a bit he did look a little wobbly but I'm not sure if it's from pain, lack of blood, or just exhausted from chasing does around. He had a dozen doe in that field. Hard to say really but for now he's alive.

That’s got to be a very rewarding great feeling to help hunters find their deer or at least give them some valuable information. I’m sure dog trackers get the same rewarding feeling as well.
