Absolutely I do, but time to market if they don't have anything overseas ready to direct import would be tough. I'm an ignorant America , I no idea if there are similar truck configs overseas for non-commercial use that would fit the bill. I fully expect there is but I can't envision anything besides a Mercedes emblem on a diesel single cab flatbed with duals. Something equivalent to our F-550 lol. I surely ain't gonna go looking for it. Someone enlighten!

There’s a different mentality over there when it comes too work trucks.... Our diesel truck thinking and would be mind boggling too then for the most part
 
J, I'm talking 3/4-1ton+ segment regardless gas or diesel as the powerplant. I expect diesels to be more common across the big pond.
 
Drove a Ford and Yota tonight in our search for the wife's next ride. Won't own another GM and it appears we will join the Yota ranks pretty soon. When my truck is ready to be replaced, I'd say we'll be a 2 Yota household. So if Ford and GM do merge, likely won't affect this redneck. I got yellow fever 😂

Germany had a lot of diesel vehicles while we were there years ago. Cars and trucks.... Lots of those vans over there that you’re now seeing around here.

Toyota has a great diesel truck overseas from what I remember. If it wasn't for our EPA they wouldn't need a separate program. Could just drop that engine in the Tacoma and hit the market..
 
For fuck sake....a Tacoma is not a 3/4ton+. Dodge and Ford both have diesels in their 1/2 ton lineup here now. I'm not talking about 2., 3., or 4.0 size engines or 1,000lb payload/10k lb max towing.

Toyota had a program to put a Cummins 5.0 Turbo Diesel in a Tacoma around 2007 or 8.

They most certainly have the engines to do it. With all of the engins they have in their box and flatbed work trucks all over Asia. The difference is the American market is unique in their desire for a fancy passenger truck that can also tow +10k. In most countries those are not passenger vehicles. A box truck or flat bed configuration to them is considered a light truck. Being hampered in the US light truck market they've expended no effort to develop a fancy chassis to put any of those engins in or deal with the nazi EPA on our diesel emission standards.

Even Ford ran in to this when they wanted to import that small cargo van from Germany, the name escapes me but its like a sprinter with the diesel engine. Since they couldn't import it without the 25% light truck tax they converted them to "passenger vans" before importation. They did this by putting in rear and side glass and rear seats. After importation they replaced the glass with metal panels and took the seats out. The glass and seats are sent to Ohio for recycling.

I was speaking in generalities, and citing the difference in what mentalities between the US and other countries on the diesel trucks.
