This is not accurate, not all had factory warranty. I'll do some more thinking.

Dave - Count/which required warranty work that you paid $ out of pocket b/c OEM wouldn't stand behind to get you back on the road?
I don't want to play this game...this game sucks. PTSD alert!!!

Hope it corrects itself soon and ya can recall which ya paid out of pocket b/c that's BS. Hope its not more than a few b/c I'd be finding a new dealer. Those don't ever leave the mind I imagine, deep breaths.

2013 F150. Recall on the upper lead plate. Warranty covered it although it was undrivable until the repair was done so it was at the dealership for a month and a half. Ford wouldn't help with a rental and said they don't give out loaners anymore. MFs! Didn't have rental insurance(my fault).

First brand new truck was a 2001' dodge 1500 off road edition, bright blue. Lots of trans problems but I don't recall it costing me any money. Sold it with 32,000 miles before warranty was out.

Second was a 2008' dodge 2500 with a hemi. Lifetime power train warranty truck. Bounce that truck on rock climbs and it would snap a front axle shift on impact! 7 times I had that repaired at $0. It also had a cat failure they fixed. That's all I can remember about it.

Third would've been 2017' GMC 1500 with a 6.2. It actually was used, but didn't have the first oil change done. That should've been my first red flag. I paid for a bunch of transmission flushes. I also had to pay for an injector failure, TWICE! I made a big enough deal the first time that I only had to pay for the labor, but it still cost me money.

I don't think anything else on that list had a factory warranty. Or it at least didn't have any problems that stand out while under warranty.

2 wins for dodge warranty, 1 lose for GM if only counting by vehicle, not each repair.

Back when I was having problems with my GMC you said it was a dealer issue. Made good sense so I switched. Same BS. It was @OhioWhiteTails neighbor that properly diagnosed the truck in his driveway.

2006 Ford F-150 bought new. Paid OOP $650 to replace idler box(I think was the part) cuz it was beyond 3yr/36K warranty. Currently sitting at 214K with tires needing replaced but all belts and several hoses have been replaced a year ago as well as fuel pump and struts.
2021 Toyota Tundra 1794 purchased 5/22 with transferable warranty. Had 4700 miles on it at purchase and currently sitting at 18K with no issues so far and changing fluids and filters on regular schedule.

6.2L? If yes, would you run regular if ya had that in a new vet?

Our local gas station doesn't sell it. Only reason it ever found it's way into the tank. But I will listen if you can explain a tank or 2 a year of regular gas destroying injectors.

I'm not qualified to answer that, but these guys shed some light on what a 11:1 engine needs to run correctly.


My dealer comment was if that entire first list were all the same dealer name and you had to pay out of pocket for warranty fixes...yikes!

Is this thread in retaliation of the comments about toyota standing behind the product? Or all the GM bashing? Because I don't see the corelation of warranty work and what was being said in the other thread. Or is this not related and just wondering?

Transmission isn't really a warranty claim on my truck. There are some issues with them. I'm taking notes. Haven't had it to the dealer to see what they will do.

I did have one issue locally. Interior bed lights weren't working. Dealer cost me some money troubleshooting. Found out someone had swapped the bed at one point. Dropped a take off bed in it which had interior bed lights. The truck didn't leave the factory with interior bed lights. I paid for that one but I can't really count that as a warranty issue. Just a fluke. FWIW the dealer was fair on their labor charges. I think it was $40-50/hr versus normal shop rate closer to $150-200/hr.

Thread intent: Collect quantitative data to help support qualitative data in the tow rig/daily driver thread. Through 80+pages and 8+years, there are so many comments in that thread that are irrelevant and actually go against helping someone make a good financial decision for their tow/daily rig its not even funny.

Retaliation - come on man, this isn't middle school. You're just a data point like the rest. You missed the opportunity to start a new thread.

Well beyond that thread, the old Ford vs. Chevy debate, and now the import competitors, BS is spewed like erupting volcanoes. I can only stand in BS for so long before I start asking questions, hence this thread was born. Eventually everyone starts to look for the shit smell.

This thread will give us the very basic to start, at the highest level, and will offer insights as the # of data points grow. Some people learn by reading, others by seeing, some by doing.

I don't think it is really a warranty issue people are talking about. It is more of an issue of manufacturers not stand behind the product when there is a known issue. The wide spread issues often happen when the trucks are out of warranty or just out of warranty and there should have been a recall or a TSB

Don't disagree at all Clay, an excellent follow up thread. It will help support the new vs. used (no warranty) conversation. We all often hear I will never buy new, they don't make them like they used to. Or, I can't afford new, but then these folks can somehow afford to dump $10K+ into a 5yr+ old vehicle to make it run down the road/tow again, and then run the OEM into the ground because of their choice. Or, their not even using a truck like it's supposed to be used, and wonder why it fails. I think this is where the meat is for the sentiment of "they don't stand behind their products", when people have become conditioned to longevity long after a warranty expires. That then leads down its own rabbit hole🤣

Let's keep it basic and clean to gather data on which OEMs are standing behind their products. This is the intent of a product warranty.

Ok, so when you going to start the next thread? This one is pretty cut and dry. If I’m on the same page (apparently I wasn’t initially) this covers all the issues while under warrant/extended warranty. Which aren’t most extended warranty’s aftermarket? So the extended warranty wouldn’t be on the manufacture but on a 3rd party?
