I've got a few of those sticks I believe. The underside of those steps where it meets the main pole there is usually a weep hole to allow water to drain. Probably got something that plugged it and kept water inside. One freeze and that step/tube probably got compromised. An extra coating of rustoleum on the welds inside and out might help some but would want to make sure the hole stays open.
Seen this today posted on Facebook, this guy is excited about this upcoming season as he is selling hunts. I guess hes already got a few booked as well. This is one of the sweet spots recently installed.
It’s coming up quick folks. I might actually set some stands up this year and have some things on my mind...
Buying a comfortable harness, so I might actually use it.
Buying new straps to go around the tree.
Adding a seatbelt cutter to my harness.
Making a map to leave with my wife with stand locations. (Maybe number the stands or color code them so she knows exact spots)
This just hit me as I was typing...I wonder if I could email OnX and see if they could add a way to link my location to another phone while in use. I’m sure that would make both parties feel safer.

Some good advice here.
With regard to onX I’m interested to hear what they say back to your question. If you can’t link locations you can still login on another phone that will have all the info as your phone does. So second phone can see stand coordinates, route to stand (recommend this so you can be found sooner by responders between truck and stand if anything would happen), and anything else you need.
I can’t figure out how to contact them. My subscription is out and I don’t really want to spend the money right now to renew because I don’t feel like I used it enough last time I had it.

Sounds like location sharing on phone is best bet.

I have a free
app called huntstand. It gives a person 10 free parcel searches/month but we found out that you can also share your location to your friends list within the app.

I use this also. Even works where you have no service as long as you load the map(open the area) before losing service. It’s good but doesn’t take the place as my Garmin GPS. I can walk my crumb trail out w my gps, not w HuntStand.
I was just reading a story on FB about a bear mauling. The story isn’t about the bear or the mauling, it’s about what the hunting partner did to save his buddies life. It went on to ask if people think about who they go into the woods with. Sure, we aren’t talking about getting smashed by a grizzly here in Ohio. But some of us venture out and people do find themselves in trouble every now and then.
Let’s take a story told on here a few days ago about a father son traveling 1600 miles and turning around. @brock ratcliff had enough thought of his son to know when to get him off that mountain. Would he have done the same for me? I’d like to think so.
I bring this up because sometimes we get invites to do things with people we barely know. We get blind sided by opportunity and let our guard down. I’ve found myself on the side of a mountain holding on to a giant moose by the antlers. Most don’t know this story because it scares the shit out of me still. 2 guns on my person and I could reach for either one it happened so fast. Shit happens folks, shit you can’t prepare for. What you can prepare for is who you go into the woods with. Maybe the story hit me a little deeper and I’ve thought a bit much into it, but I felt like I needed to share.
