It will work all day, everyday and trice on Sunday. Hook up lifeline while standing on platform fingertips high on tree. Then tie tag end at bottom of stand snug. Your harness should have a strap and between the strap and carabeaner and little slack in lifeline it will work perfectly. Only thing you have to decide is which hand you will use to slide up and down.... so tie the lifeline to that side of the main beam and rung and keep it off the climbing rungs.
Once you hook up on the ground you slide it up as you climb and adjust how high up on the tree you need it to have mobility. Usually it’s almost right on me while sitting. You never unhook and when coming down you slide it down. Trust me you will be reminded when you forget to slide it. Never hold it has it won’t function right if you happen to fall.

But isn't the ladder out too far? If it's tied onto the tree above the stand....I fall, I'm dropping 3-4 feet then it's going to swing me into the tree.

Other side of that is you hit the ground. Even if your on the tree and fall your gonna hit the tree.
Your line comes out at an angle as it’s tied to the base of your stand. Gravity will have you falling down w a little swing cause your on an angle

I always used a harness for a climber and a lockon. Never did use for a ladder unless I was bow hunting and needed to stand to shoot. Yeah I’ve cut corners on safety as I was young and dumb. When my boys were old enough, cutting corners here and there was indirectly teaching bad habits to my boys.
They have never seen me cut a corner off of my safety initiative.
When you put your kid in a tree and walk away it’s hard to hunt away from them. Shit runs through your head: did they fall, hanging from harness, fall asleep, gun shot sounded, was it them or someone else, are they ok? Anything negative runs threw your head. We hunted a lot of public also so another jackass in the woods brought concern also. So I put in measures to help me.
We would get to one tree and I’d help the setup. Watch him climb and lock in. Then raise weapon and get situated. I’d tell him the direction and that’s ano zone for shooting. A couple hundred yards and repeat w other boy. Walk some distance away and climb up usually after day was breaking all sweaty and shit. I didn’t care about me I put my boys in the best spots and gave them room. The orders were to never climb down until I was under the tree. They been using climbers since 9. We done it the hard way. If you can learn to love the hard way and fight through all the things against you and be successful, you can kill anywhere with any weapon. They have not disappointed me and I can cut them lose on 90k acres and not worry much. They have all the tools and skills to be successful all it takes is will power, determination and love for the hunt. They have also been taught to respect others and leave it better than they found it.
Back to the lifeline lol. Once you get it set it up you will see what I’m saying. You can also YouTube anything.
Also be sure to have a suspension relief strap with you in an easy access pocket. In the event that you can't kick yourself off of the tree to grab the ladder, this will help with suspension trauma, which certainly can be fatal.

Have it come down the front of the ladder as you climb. Sure if you fall to the side at the top it might swing you towards the tree but the likelihood is more when you are stepping onto and off of the platform from the ladder. Like others said, at least you aren't hitting the ground.
It’s been 3 years since I’ve been on. I’m sure I’ll share more that’s old news. 
My brains moving today...and it lead to a memory of hunting with a fellow TOO member. During a ML hunt we set out to bump some deer around. Everything all legal and public land. We all had our orange on and all was good. One guy threw on a camo backpack. Not one of us thought anything about it.
2 hours later I catch movements in the brush ahead of me. At first I couldn’t make out what it was. I thought about putting my scope on it to get a better look. But chose to walk closer to get a better look. It was that TOO member with his pack covering all his orange!

I bought a couple blaze orange back packs at Walmart after season years ago. Served my son and I well for a lot of seasons... Nothing fancy but held every thing we needed and got the job done.
Oh yeah, I did pass it along... don’t remember what happened too the other one. Probably gave that one away as well. Hopefully it serves the wearer well...You gave one away and the member I’m talking about grabbed it.
Those things were marked down to like $15 and there was only 2 left when I bought em or I’d of bought them all and passed them out to his buddies.
Anyone making lifelines for a decent price? I have one stand that needs one, but I'd put them on all of them if I could source some for a reasonable price.
