Not sure what else to say other than it has been one of the best seasons ever in the woods. Not because of the tags punched but the people I’ve shared the experiences and camps with. I approached this year differently than years past not using any trail cams and I really enjoyed the change! From an opening weekend public land camping adventure to getting a nice Indiana archery buck on the first day of my rutcation, I’m thankful for good friends who helped me get that dude out of the back of the property and helped with some field pics! Fast forward to a long awaited proper NY Deer camp a great buddy invited me to and there was no shortage of lifetime memories made. The culture of this area is simply perfect where opening day is a state holiday and literally every camp has smoke rolling out the chimney and every bar or restaurant is full of camo. We bow hunted the week prior to gun then heavily anticipated opening day of rifle. Early in the week we got hit with heavy snow and one of my goals was accomplished by seeing a fisher cat in the wild. Finally the weather broke in this nearly mountainous area and we started to dial in on how the deer were using the hills and benches and what would you know, buddy insisted I hunt “THE” stand opening day and wow was he right, I managed to take a great 8 pt which was one of ten I saw that morning. We rounded out the week with the absolute best experience ever and that was my friends daughter harvesting a true trophy black bear. I was able to join them for the recovery and fist bumps and I’m literally still on cloud 9 from all of this. Thank you to these great friends and my lovely wife for not just tolerating but encouraging this obsession of hunting. Enjoy the pics telling just a tiny slice of the story which could otherwise only be experienced to be understood. Now on to Ohio!!
