Shrooms

The asparagus is ready to pick in Mahoning County, means the temp is right for the shrooms. But I did not find any shrooms yesterday. The apple trees were blooming in Jefferson County but not up here.

I found 37 yellows today in an hour! That is pretty darn good for me. Most of our little woods is covered with green vegetation to the point you cannot even see much leaf litter. I have just a couple of spots in there that I can see the ground, and one of those little spots was full of 'em! Fun as heck when you find a patch like that. We found about 40-50 on Sunday too, but only 15 in our woods.

I'm convinced I'll never find any. Looked in some "textbook" places today to no avail. Maybe they just don't grow on our farm. You'd think on 80 acres with lots of stumps, deadfalls, elms and oak, we'd have some. That, or I just suck...

I gave up. Waste of my time.

I found 71 today, most of which I located while screwing with the same turkey Mason has been trying to kill since day one of season. I'd rather have the shrooms, but I must admit, this bird is giving me a better workout than any I've dealt with for a number of years. Tomorrow, he dies, and hopefully we will find more shrooms!

Found two or three yesterday afternoon in Montgomery County. Kept a few for myself and gave the rest to a landowner who lets me deer hunt.
