Safety Single favorite/most useful piece of gear

Walking in to the stand today I got thinking about all the gear I've purchased over the years. Seems like every season I make a small upgrade or swap something out. Thought it might be fun to throw out the question if you had to recommend one piece of gear for the new would be hunter to invest in what would it be?

After thinking it over my pick has got to be a good pair of boots. I'd have a hard time thinking of anything that has single handedly made hunting a better experience than a good pair of boots.

Man this could go so many ways depending on species being hunted and time of year. For the newest hunter a good reliable weapon is a must. My first was an old .410 that was a pain to use and caused lots of frustration when I started out.
After that yeah a good comfortable set of boots for the season is also a must have. For cold season I'd say something to keep your core warm and a good face mask to keep your face warm are world changing in my eyes.

Good facemask is a nice one. Wool balaclava was a game changer. Found out quickly that a beard can only do so much.

Constant runny nose is so dang frustrating. Matched with a cheap early season mesh facemask sucks so bad during the cold months. I got an insulated one about 3 years ago. I bet I was smiling the entire day under that mask the first few days wearing it out. A warm drink also can do wonders for your core and make just as many smiles after each sip, so an insulated cup that can keep it piping hot can be that thing that gets you to make it through the day.
I'm failing at your question i think

Not at all. Honestly there's no right answer. Just passing time in the stand. I added a hand muff that has a pocket you can put a hand warmer in. That's been a real nice upgrade too. Just doesn't trump that first sit in better boots for me.

Gloves, boots, head gear. It covers all the bases too keep you on stand all the longer. Especially cold weather hunting.
It took me way too long to make the decision too spend the money on the quality stuff vs the cheap stuff that never worked for me. The adage buy once, cry once finally sunk in. Not saying all of the expensive stuff works but most of the cheap didn’t.

On a serious note, I would have to say the one I have the most faith in that day. Some days that’s a rain coat, other days it might be warm boots, when tomorrow might be a breathable outfit. I just need to know that what I grab, I can count on. That starts from the socks and ends when I pull back into the driveway safe. For this evening and weekend, my most valuable piece will be my binoculars to be sure of my target.

Next to either one of my weapons of choice that I current have and safety gear, I have to say my old API climber cause it's so freaking comfortable that I actually enjoy just sitting there observing what 'Mother Nature' has to offer even though I may not see any deer.

And honestly, there are so many others that I have accumulated over the years and each of them have their special purpose for the type of hunting and/or the situation I find myself in.

Where I'm at today with all the gear that I have at my disposal, I feel there is no hunting type situation I can't handle no mater when, where or what type of weather conditions I may be up against. I purposefully sought each item to help build my confidence and/or increase any possible advantage when I head out to kill most any kind of wild game.

So, sticking with just my favorite, it would be my old lightweight API climber. I love the damn thing!

Theres another one! Brush cutters are a must have if you're chasing rabbits. You wanna have a bad time, dont wear brush cutters and go be the dog.

I bought this beaver lined hat from Cabelas a decade ago. It's still like new and is almost too warm. It's an excellent cold weather hat regardless of what you're hunting and I'm glad I remembered it this morning! I'm also wearing 2 layers of Cabelas ECWS fleece thermals and a Cabelas windproof wool sweater. It's all great stuff and among my most essential gear.

This heater is probably a decade old also. It's paid for itself many times!
