Snatch block

I'm looking at getting a snatch block for my ATV. I don't plan on using it for recovery right now (not out of the question, but I doubt where I ride I'll need it). I'll basically be using it to move logs around or to get widowmakers going in the right direction in my woods when I cut them down.

What kind do you all recommend?

This one looks like overkill, but it may have more uses for me down the road if I ever get a truck with a more powerful winch: Smittybilt 2744 Universal Snatch Block.

There's this one that is advertised as being for UTV / ATV: VIPER ATV / UTV Heavy Duty 4T Snatch Block.

I got mine from Harbour Freight and it works fine. Was less than 10.00 too! Mine is a little more heavy duty than the one you posted as well.

They must have quit carrying them. I have had it for 3 or 4 years I guess.

You need a strap for the branch/item being moved? Can keep a lookout and have been known to run into them.

They aren't stamped, this is the big one I have and you can see how they are rated.

The one I used the most with my quad is the smallest one they make. You can also never have enough hooks and clevises.

Yeah, I'm looking at getting a couple of those tree savers. The big thing I want to do right now is work on the widowmakers on my property. I've got a bunch of them. I'll probably drop them and cut them right there, don't think I'll be doing too much skidding.

Also looking at getting one of these:

Those make for rolling full logs nice. Any strap works fine for tree savers also.

Are you running a wire on your winch? If so, I'd ditch that and go synthetic. Much nicer to deal with.

I will also add that you don't want to be messing with widow makers if you don't know what you are doing. I've cut down thousands of trees and I still prefer to pull them down with a truck/equipment if at all possible. Renting a backhoe for a weekend might be the same price as buying all this stuff.

xbowguy hooked me up with a real nice strap - thanks again, man. Great people around here!

I put some synthetic rope on my winch and ditched the wire. It unspools a ton easier, that's for sure. Thanks everyone for the help & advice.

Hell ya man. Nice gesture Rick!
