One day hunt journal (in Indiana). Next season I will be hunting my brother's property in Athens County.
Current hunted properties:
1. A friend's farm near Butler, IN. He wants deer reduction - if it's brown, it's down. Two tree stands, patch of woods surrounded by farmland.
2. Deer reduction zone near I69 on a friend's property where he raises red deer.
October 3 - sighting in the crossbow
October 26 - Rubs and scrapes in the Butler woods
October 29 - the reduction zone property
October 31 - the Butler property
November 5 - a miss with the crossbow. My hunting prayer - quick kill or clean miss.
November 13 - 7 point, neck shot. Didn't intend that, but it bled out real fast and dropped after 30 yards. Dressed out to 125#.
November 21 - Reduction zone requires taking a doe first before any bucks. Naturally, there were 3 different bucks wandering all around taunting me. At 9:30 a doe finally showed, 180 yards away. Shot offhand with a Fierce Fury in 300 WM and a Vortex Golden Eagle scope, impacted a little behind prime target area. Ran about 20 yards and dropped in a brushy area. Before I found it a big 7 point was huffing at me 30 yards away. Wasn't sure of the doe yet, so no shot taken. Dressed out to 130#
December 14 - canning last year's deer to make room for this year's deer
