View attachment 207518My buddy Brian and I had a good morning. I took a gun for the first time in Ohio. I took a 410 loaded w TSS. Killed my bird stone dead at about 40 yards.

Heck yes. I’ve prided myself my entire life for not being one of those guys that runs up and takes a beating from a flopping bird. The bird I shot dropped and did not wiggle a feather. Five or ten minutes after we shot our turkeys he suddenly started flopping around. He was about to bounce right off the hill so I stepped on him. And of course he jerked himself bald. And beat me silly.

Since I am a smart ass, I was also wondering about your pose? Did he hurt your knee when he was flopping?

Wouldn’t help. I’ve been misdiagnosed for 23 years with gout. Turns out it is pseudo gout with no real treatment available. Gonna start yet another series of fun things to see if they help.

Sydney and I are out in a blind. We've heard a couple gobbles but the wind is really kicking up and feels like the temp is falling

Another first today, savannah got her first turkey. We set up first thing on a field i watched a bird strut in yesterday all morning while I was working. It was so windy we couldn't hear a thing. Ended up leaving about 8 to go check another place. We walked to a blind I had set up last deer season hit a call and one gobbled 150 yards away. I told her to get in the blind and I ran to set up the decoys less than 10 minutes later 2 jakes came in to bully the decoys and she shot one at 10 yards. She did a number on the fan but ill patch it back together.

No gobbles early at the farm, so I went north to AEP for a mushroom hunt and didn't hear a thing there either. Came back to the farm and it's still silent. This place is a far cry from what it used to be. Our local turkey population here is garbage. Conditions couldn't be worse with the wind and rain, but I can't help but miss the good old days...
