Squirrels

Been busy busy busy getting ready for the holidays. I had a just a few hours of free time last weekend. What a dark dreary dismal day it was. Saw a few squirrels but most were too far for a shot. One lady fox squirrel snuck up on me. I looked to my left and there she was sitting in a tree about 10 yards away looking at me. She shouldn't have paused.

I got all my Christmas shopping done today so I'm hoping I can sneak some time in the woods tomorrow.

My foreman asked if I would go hunting in the morning. He is running low on squirrels. Wanted to give the family a little treat for a Christmas gathering. Told him it would be my honor to help him provide that meal for them. Wish I wasn't wide awake right now nearing 3am. Probably make it rough to meet up with him around 7-730am. Looking forward to it though.

I sucked this morning. Worked on firewood before going out and I think the arm pump hurt me. Missed one which I should have waited a little longer for a better shot. After missing I took a quick follow up shot and missed again. On the move, I didn't feel bad missing the second shot. Shame on me on the first one. Went out this afternoon and redeemed myself. Shot a huge male free hand at 75yds with the 17hmr. Saw some others but didn't get any shots. Today would have been a great day for a shotgun. Most of my shots were obstructed and they walked. My foreman carried a shotgun and came home with three on his own plus mine.
