Damnit! I somehow ended up off work already and now I don't want to hunt, yet I want to hunt...

I always wanted to shoot a hot doe during the rut...tag her and hunt over her. Ultimate attractant! I was thinking about that this morning. So if I go kill a doe now, my season in Highland county would be over in November. I wouldn't like that... maybe it's just an excuse? A lot of mind games going on right now...I'm a mess.

Just get in a low impact stand and take in the surroundings if you want to get your fix. That's essentially what I'm doing tonight, although there have been reports of a real stud in this area so anything could happen.

Yeah... I'm watching OSU and thinking I need to get out... wife is going to her mothers for dinner.... She's like are you going to moms???? Nope, going to the stand lol....

Years of personal experience screwing up by hunting a location on the wrong wind that leads to days of hunting your prime spot later under ideal conditions without seeing the buck you are hunting.

A few years ago the buck I wanted to hunt was in a location for one of my blinds that I could only hunt on a North wind. I only gun hunt so I don't get a lot of days to choose when to hunt. During the 7 days of gun I never had a north wind and did not hunt that blind. The 2 days of bonus gun did not provide the needed north wind and again I skipped that location, During the MZ season I finally got my North wind and I was fortunate enough to kill my target buck. I hunted other blinds during the previous 9 days of the gun seasons knowing full well there was a small likely hood of me seeing anything I would shoot but I had to wait, I had no choice. I filled my time just watching deer and taking pictures of deer and birds and watching the long range weather forecast for a wind I could hunt on.

This may sound strange for how most perceive gun hunters but I grew up as a bowhunter and still hunt like one no matter what hunting implement I carry. The exception is it is much easier with a gun as I don't have to get as close to my work.:D

I am embarrassed to say this but with the small area CJD and I have to hunt I don't care about the wind, that is just me but then again we do not have ball draggers per say hanging out. If I go and pull cards or put corn out I stay away for a day or two and then just hit it again. If I get busted, I stay away of a couple of days but working my schedule and not having a lot of time I just go for it. When I got home last week after being up working 12 hours all night, driving 3.5 hours to home in the morning I went right out and put some corn out and pulled my cards. Got back to the house and slept literaly the whole day and night. Thursday went to the doctors for my knee, Friday hung out with the family, Saturday morning smoked up and went out in the drizzle and at approx. 8:05 shot my doe. I am again some what embarrassed to say I had my rubber chest wadders out but it was so warm I just threw on my camo jacket, due rag, paint the face and aaaaaaaaaa wore dark jeans. Once I got the doe on the ATV and took her some distance away before field dressing her. Saying all of this I guess my point is I just go for it. If I was home longer after getting the doe I would have had a few days of a cool off period.

Nothing wrong at all with your tactics or to be embarrassed about, hunting is always about utilizing what you have to get what you want out of the experience. Nobody needs to hunt the way I do and I certainly don't need to hunt like anyone else, to each his own. I hope nobody measures their hunting experience value based on how others view them but what they themselves value and want to achieve.

Thanks but I mean I always wear camo, lol. Just after smoking up everything and then seeing how warm it was ( I did smoke up the dark jeans ) I just said heck with it. I was not going to spend the extra time in the basement looking for my camo pants or coveralls and smoking them and getting out late. I got lucky and the smoke was a assist. Next time out I will take the time to get numerous camo out ahead of time.

I take my two deer every year (doe and big buck) by not hunting all the time. The temperature must be right, the wind must be right, and the time must be right. Not now. Halloween to Thanksgiving. Highs no more than mid 50's, and winds right for one of two stands. North, Northwest, or West. Nothing south or southwest.

I used to hunt the weather like that, but it was because I wanted the deer to be able to hang in my garage as long as possible.
