Steve Esker

I'll be more impressed with any buck Diablo kills than what this joker shoots. I'm not jealous in the least bit either. I'd rather continue to wallow in my own mediocrity than shoot fish in a barrel with a string rifle...

I think he has something wrong with one of his shoulders, that's why he shoots a crossbow. Even if he were shooting a high powered rifle, it is still an accomplishment to take a 200 plus deer, let alone 4 of them. Congrats to Mr. Esker.

Yeah easy fellas. We all deer hunt for different reasons. Weapons are only a method. You still have to find them. He didn't need a helicopter for this one so that a step in the right direction.

You guys crack me up.. Lol.. Like saying I am a better turkey hunter cause I shoot em with a x-bow and you guys use a shotgun..

No doubt there. Very select minority have done this. Maybe Adam Hayes? Stan Potts? Pretty small crowd have done so.

I have my speculations about some of these hunts, but in the end the hunter knows if they harvested them legally or not. In my area, 140-160" deer is a heck of a deer which few have opportunities at. In another area 180-200" might be the slobs. You just never know.

realistically a 140in deer is good anywhere in the state. This is why OBBC is a 140 inch minimum to get it (I think), like you said some areas might have slobs at 180, but very very very few.

I think someone pointed out on here or another forum Stand Potts biggest deer is a 194ish? Just an FYI.

Want to kill 200 inch deer? Bring your checkbook and your bow. It's literally that easy. Some people spend 150K to buy 100 acres in southern Ohio for hunting. These guys buy a house or a lot in the burbs and spend that on it.

You can do it too.. Some people lease land at $20 an acre and spend $4,000.. Here in Columbus you can lease any 1 acre lot you want for that because that's what it took to make the tree hugger let you hunt it.

These guys aren't doing anything special.

He'll killed a 220" non-typical on Primetime Bucks 6. At the time, it was the largest free range deer ever killed on film. He got flamed for the shot he took because it was straight on...

I stand corrected!

I'll clarify and add to my statement regarding his weapon of choice. If you choose to hunt with a crossbow, I have no issue with that choice because it is legal and it is an "ethical" weapon in regard to dispatching deer with great efficiency. It is also a great tool for getting young people, women, and handicapped hunters more involved in the sport. Crossbows extend the hunting career of older hunters and help those with injuries and physical limitations. However at the end of the day, you will never convince me that it is not an easier weapon to use in comparison to a compound or traditional weapon. A crossbow drastically cuts down on the movement needed to harvest an animal and it extends the effective range of nearly anyone who shoots one. My personal opinion is that included with my disdain for his tactics, is his weapon choice and that is solely because he is already killing animals that are largely desensitized to humans, while removing a HUGE variable in effectively killing an animal of that caliber. That is not a reflection on anyone who chooses to use a crossbow because I believe that is your choice to do so and I support that decision. I understand he may have a medical issue, but it sure doesn't look like it and I'd bet he could shoot a 45# recurve if he wanted...

Milo - Love the helicoptor comment haha very true! Sadly I shot a buck that I thought was high lung and let lay for over 30 hours before I started tracking. Unfortunatley it was further forward and I would assume above the spine. I had a local guy that flys banner signs all over Columus for events and I asked if he could take me to look for this buck after two days of searching. NO luck..... 2 weeks later I got a pic of him chasing does! Never saw him again.... chased him for 4 years and when I finally got the shot i shot to high, an inch lower and dead deer! Would have been my best buck at around 165".... crazy what we do for a deer!

Jesse - Im on the same page with the crossbow and im sure when im old and decreped i will use one just to be able to hunt still. Ive become more accepted of it but still have quams. Either way the crossbow isnt what killed a 200" deer.... a guy with a FAT wallet did. Like Joe said, leasing in Columbus area is retarded high and a prime example of what happens when you do is the year im living! Lease it to secure land bc its the only way to anymore and get your shit stolen or shot at! Either way deer hunting is becoming a rich mans sport and there will always be those with no ethics that ruin it for everyone. The media is to blame for 90% of the hunting problems such as "leasing". Farmers know people will pay now and with hard economic times i dont blame them but it does hurt us as hunters. I was against leasing in my home state for a LONG time but if I want a place to hunt i almost have to now..... sad!

I was just in a mood.. ;) my shoulders are messed up and I choose to shoot one.. But there are so many variables in easier shot...Several of the stands I hunt in are only 12-14feet up. A lot of people hunt twice that high....Also if you hunt out of a ground blind, it doesnt matter what you shoot, you are hidden... I just think people should shoot whatever will put the cleanest most ethical kill shot on the deer.. Ok I'm done.. Play on :D

I might go on a xbow hunt at some point this season with my dads new tenpoint just for shits and giggles. Things a badass killin machine and i'll enjoy it!

Congrats to Mr. Esker on yet another fine buck. The man can get it done for sure. I don't care where he kills them all I know is he is in an elite class of hunters. Stan has supposedly killed four 200 inchers but I know for a fact the one killed in logan county didn't net 200 but they still consider it 200 cause it had some bone broken off... Go figure

I wouldn't consider him an in an "elite class of hunters" I reserve that for people like Roger, Fred, and Randy. Locally people like Adam, Rex, and even you. "hunter" isn't exactly the word I would use to describe what he or his buddies do as that implies a certain level of skill or woodsmanship. For example. I could put an ad I the Columbus Craigslist tomorrow offering 4 grand to anyone who has a giant buck eating their flowers who is willing to let me kill it. That wouldn't make me a hunter and surely not elite.
