Steve Esker

Congrats to Mr. Esker on yet another fine buck. The man can get it done for sure. I don't care where he kills them all I know is he is in an elite class of hunters. Stan has supposedly killed four 200 inchers but I know for a fact the one killed in logan county didn't net 200 but they still consider it 200 cause it had some bone broken off... Go figure

Not sure the details, but I knew Stan Potts hunted somewhere between us for awhile. Maybe still does. I don't know. All I know is my cousin owned some land which was sold to him (or someone in his group) and he was hunting some studs in the area. Makes me sick now but I didn't hunt at the time and quite frankly, the hunting industry wasn't what it is now.

Nice buck but I too believe that urban deer are limited on travel which can make them easier to harvest. I am not lying or boasting when I say this, my Dad owns 3 acres and Big Run SP is in his back yard... he has lived there for 35 years and seen alot of 200" deer in his back yard during the rut over that time. He refuses to shoot deer in his back yard saying"thats not hunting, thats shooting fish in a barrell". To each his own I guess, thats what makes the world go round.

Your Dad wanna make some easy fun money? I am sure there are some horn hunters that would pay BIG bucks to shoot one. Stevens, Esker, and the like would come with check book in hand. Seriously. Have your dad set up some trail cams. Get pics. Offer it to them. Hell, he could probably buy a nice quad for what they would pay.

I have a coworker that lives next to Alum Creek park. He keeps telling me to come hunt these big ones in his back yard. I showed him a picture of Tank.. "Wayy bigger than that he said".. I may set up a cam in his back yard just to get pics.

Wow... For a regular Joe Schmoe (no pun intended) to notice a difference in antler size like that, especially in comparison to a deer like Tank, that is really saying something. There must be some true bigguns in his backyard.

not trying to say your wrong, but I notice with guys who dont hunt if I show them trail cam pictures they will always say "I saw one like that on the golf course, actually probably twice as big" Im thinking you saw a 300inch deer, prob not buddy.

The guy probably does have some hogs, but I think Jackalope will be plenty happy with the pics he has of Tank still.

Good idea Been, I want to put in a 1 acre food plot first. I could only imagine the sheer numbers of deer that would be in his yard. His neighbor one year decided he would feed the poor deer during a cold winter, after 2 weeks he said he couldnt keep up with them and it cost too much. I swear one night when he stopped there were 50-60 deer standing in his yard, some on the porch waiting for him to feed them... he was afraid to come out..LOL. I figure if I could get regular pics of a 200 incher he could get about 10-20 grand...

I agree. Every time someone who doesn't hunt tells me about the big deer they see I always show them a pic of tank and ask "That big?".. Usually they're shocked and say nowhere near that size. But I know what you mean. Bullshitters are everywhere..But honestly that area has good potential to have Esker like deer walking around. And you're right. I would rather shoot tank than a 220 inch esker deer any day.

Well I know that people (especially non-hunters) will usually embellish a story about a buck they saw... saying it was huge, or had 14 pts or some bullshit like that. But to actually look at a picture, and then nonchalantly say "oh yea I saw one twice that big..." when it's not true... that's a whole 'nother level of idiot right there. I guess I'm giving the general public way too much credit. There are plenty of idiots out there these days, that's for sure.

From my limited experience, Ive noticed that areas with extremely high numbers of deer don't hold mature bucks year after year. It's the opposite. It seems, at least for my areas, that the properties with less deer are more likely to be holding a stud or two. Like I said, just my experience down here in the hills as there is lots of variables.

For me it is hunters that are always seeing the 14-16 point bucks, I hear it every year in the hunting stores. The non hunters just say big, giant, huge, but don't give point counts :)

I let some business customers of mine bowhunt a few years ago. I told them doe only unless it was a buck in the 140 area or larger. I got a phone call( I was on the other side of the property) the first afternoon to come help him get his deer out of the woods, that he had kill a BIG BUCK. I went and helped him get his 14" basket rack 8 point, that scored around 100 to his truck. To this day he thinks he killed a BIG BUCK. It is hunters like him that I think if they see a legitimate 140 buck they swear it is a 14 point going 200"

I know this for a fact and can tell you a Funny to go along with it. I know of 2 fellas who used a Brand New Bass Boat to cross Alum Creek and drop each other off to hunt the No Hunting Area. Yes, they were caught after shooting a "Monster" Buck and blood was in the boat. They lost their hunting gear and new boat! But the DNR from what I was told, let him keep the payment book for the boat.

I can atest to it also. I live and travel by Alum all the time. Personally seen many above B&C regularly. And they are dumb, big deer.

Friend has a house off of Africa in a division with a finger woods that fed to Alum. Crazy. I walked it one day and the deer just looked at you as you walked past. The farthest any went was still in shooting (bow) distance. They LOVE petunias!
