Storage for trail cam photos

Sgt Fury

Sgt. Spellchecker
I need to find something to store my trail cam pics on. I have a computer that I use only for this but I’m not very computer literate and when the computer doesn’t like or see the sd card, I have to wait until I get home to Jersey to use the main computer or get help from the wife. I’m tired of this happening and need to get something other than a computer. Just needs to have the ability to use a wireless mouse and accept sd cards. This rules out my ipad. Anyone have any suggestions of something simple to use for only picture storage?

Laptop computer is kinda the way to go unfortunately. If your SD slot has trouble now and then you could look at a good SD card reader that plugs into one of the USB ports. Much more reliable than the slot contacts in the computer from my experience.

I have one of those also. The computer does not see the card. When you click on the computer settings, the usb drive shows up and when you click on that, it says “insert usb card” it’s already in the slot. I spent over three hours trying and it’s not the first time it’s let me down so I’m going to go another route. I’m unfamiliar with today’s tech so I figured someone here would be able to suggest an alternative. I’ll probably go to a Best Buy and ask for advise and check out what is new….you know, see what the kids are doing nowadays.😂

Would a external hard drive help? For less than n$50.00 you can get a 2 Terabyte, external hard drive almost anywhere.
Assuming you have someway to transfer ...

You should try a SD card reader for your iPad. You don’t need a mouse. An iPad is much more convenient than a laptop or computer.

Tried that also…the iPad would download several thousand pics, then I’d have to delete the ones I didn’t want one at a time. Too time consuming. I couldn’t figure out how to just save the ones I wanted without the iPad downloading the entire card.

Found out what is causing all of my problems…the little white piece of plastic on the upper left side of the sd card fell off. Tried putting tape over it but it didn’t work. Tried three different computers and they can’t see the card when put into the slot. @bowhunter1023 @Jackalope have any suggestions to get the images from the card or is it a lost cause?

If the card was locked when that fell off, you're probably SOL. I'm assuming when you try to open it using File Explorer on the PC, you get an error message or is it not recognizing the card at all?

Yup, it tells me to insert a card but it’s already in…it’s just not seeing it. I remember the old vhs tapes could be fixed by putting tape over the hole. When comparing the sd card to another I noticed the little white piece of plastic near the “locked” part of the card was missing…I found it in the sd card case. The wife was trying to put it back on next to the sink and….you guessed it, she dropped the plastic piece and it’s gone! I had almost 8,000 pics on that card so I know there was some good ones. I guess I’ll end up throwing the card away.

Thanks. I tried it once already and it didn’t work. I’ll give it another try or two.👍
