it doesn't take much to amuse me while I'm at work.

so I've been working on this house in Muirfield Village that is right on the golf course. not sure what hole, been there since last Monday. yesterday late morning I'm up a ladder doing my work and I get a phone call. I put down my brush and see who it is. It's Brock, so I answer the phone and the first thing he says to me is "you're probably on a ladder working aren't you." lol, yes, as a matter of fact I am. we had a nice chat about barred turkey feathers and I went on with my painting until it was time to move ladder. when I get to the ground I put my painting set up on the ground and when I did, I noticed this. I did like four double-takes trying to decide if this was a rub. definitely.

I don't know how I didn't notice it when I put the ladder there, but I was fighting a bunch of tree branches to get the ladder on the house. I had walked by this tree several times in the five days I was there before I saw this rub. in my defense, the path of least resistance through there is between the tree and the house, so I hadn't really walked on that side until I needed to. I had seen fresh deer tracks earlier on that side of the house, and this morning when I got there an adult doe with a button buck was standing in the back yard. that tree that rub is on is not 8 feet from the house.

standing in the same exact spot I took a pic of the fairway which was about 80 yards from where I was standing.

Sure it's not a cat using it as a scratching post? Seen any around? We have one outdoor cat and she loves to scratch a tree in the flower bed like that. I cut the tree but left the stump for her to scratch. Better that than something else. Your is far more tore up but you never know how many cats people have. 😅

I have worked at 2 different golf courses over the past 5 years. They are wildlife sanctuaries. It is incredible the wildlife I have seen; deer (trophy class), turkey, bald eagles, ducks, coyotes, foxes, hogs, armadillos and alligators (In Georgia). I was able to hunt one of them, a little. I've run trail cams at one and got some really, really cool footage of deer. For those of you who golf, always keep an eye out.

Those youtube guys that urban hunt are always around golf courses. I think they are from Georgia also. I don't remember the name of them, I just like watching them stack up the does! I think they went to Alabama and were shooting deer out of a lifted, camo limo😂

Did anyone ever see that show called Chasin Tail? It was in Connecticut, I think. Guys hunted all urban properties. It was cheezy and hokey; it got cancelled like midway through the first season, but... They got to hunt a lot of deer.
I was sitting at the new Rooster's in Dublin and was talking to my buddy and of course hunting came up. Lady sitting across from us said, "did I hear you say you are a hunter?" I thought oh hell, here we go. I said, "Yes, ma'am." She proceeds to go on and on about the deer in her back yard and how they eat her flowers and yadda yadda. I offered to help her out with her issues. She politely declined but we had a great conversation about hunting and I think I may have offered somewhere in the area of 30 times to come take care of those pesky critters. Her husband was cracking up. I really think had she not lived in a neighborhood she may have let me.
Urban hunting definitely sounds appealing at times but 2 lane roads and bad cell service sounds better. How's the saying go??? "One thing I've learned about problems is they don't take dirt roads and they can't hunt/fish"....... something like that.

I used to hunt the urban program in Gahanna. It was a totally different style hunting in city parks but they did it right and it was a ton of fun. Killed a pile of deer there. When the police chief and parks and rec director retired the program was discontinued. That’s been 2 or 3 years and I’m sure the population is out of control by now. They used to provide stats every year of deer killed in the program vs deer/vehicle accidents and the number killed by hunters was always higher. I was sad to see it end

I remember as a kid, way before I ever thought about hunting, Sharon Woods had a quota hunt. Man the uproar was intense. But again, that was years ago... does anyone hear have a memory of any of that?

I’m pretty sure they still do it but it’s only open to Metro Parks employees.

Seek one are the guys they’re being talked about. They hunt giant suburban blue ridge mountain white tails and are very successful in doing so!

and speaking of a strange place to find something, yesterday my uncle was turkey hunting on my place and saw a Bobcat. it came across my powerline on the lane I drive on in broad daylight, about 40 yards from his blind. he got it's attention with some yelping, and it did spot his decoys, but chose not to investigate. I guess it was just a matter of time.
