My neighbor has my old truck sitting in his backyard. 2006 F350 4x2 mega cab longbed. Bulletproofed 6.0 auto loaded. Was in excellent shape when it left me at 219k. It’s been down for almost a year. Not sure what he blew. I understand you need to pull the cab to work on the engine. That’s why I sold it because it’s a reality someday. It got 16 mpg.

Funny to think that PW, PL, AC, CC, bluetooth, and rear cameras are now all std. on base trims. I was always disappointed you had to go up a trim package to get some things but that means carpet....not no more!

Phil, thinking cost aspect of it (reagrdless where ya land new/used or trim) I'm sure it's a business expense. Isn't this piece of equipment more important than the ones of higher cost or sitting idle somewhere? Is there a better ROI with unloading some lower used/older pieces of equipment to cover this one? Trying to put myself in your shoes, obviously only you know if theirs areas to move around the pieces, but I would think this ranks up there as an important business need.

@5Cent I appreciate what you're saying. Is the brand new one with warranty $15k better than a two year old truck with warranty? Are either of them better than my 06 Dodge with the 5.9L and 6 sp? Hard saying. They all break. I'm more afraid of the new ones breaking than the old ones. I have no faith in modern mechanics working on stuff. Bunch of parts changers because the computer told them to try this part. If that doesn't work, try a different part.

Catastrophic failure for your truck to sit at a dealer for repair or waiting on a part (more common) on a new one is few and far between these days. You only hear about the ones that do, the 10 in 100K units made. Even lower on the gassers.

The last 3 I have bought have been new because my time is worth more than the offset of price for warranty coverage, peace of mind, reliability, and as mentioned above, creature comforts of certain packages (or lack there of). I don't need the downtime of the truck and the loss of personal time to fix it. That time is worth more focusing on the next thing. Only you know what your time is worth. Sounds like it's time for a pros/cons list. If cost is the only thing, I'm sure there's opportunity elsewhere, the question is which is more important/higher priority. If you're comparing to keep an 2006, I think you better take a step back and decide first if it's even time for a replacement. Those are 2 very different questions.

Everything is shit. New parts. Younger generation of workers. Supply chain failures. I have zero faith in a brand new vehicle today. I'll implement them a little at a time as it becomes necessary. I'm keeping my old ones as long as I can. Take my pair of F250 with the 5.4L motor. Neither are driven daily. I can swap a Jasper engine into them for 3-4 new truck payments and be good for a long time. Lol

I guess all I'm saying is there is a place for everything. A mix of old and new. Should I continue to own 3 skid loaders or buy one brand new one? I'm better off owning 3, bidding work for 2 and keep my own spare. Trucks are similar in my eyes. I won't buy a used lawn mower, but I won't buy a new truck. My mind is whack. 🤣

I've been spending them rapidly since Biden took office. In spite of it all, the economy still sucks. Not for my lack of spending effort. They are all gone now. Wish I had some crusty old dollars left. 😥

Interest rates, and higher costs in other areas of living is definitely helping the car shopper in regards to inventory. Just heard Tesla is at the Cleveland Auto Show, opens tonight at 5pm, go see if that Cybertruck fits the bill🤣

I can relate with the buttons on the wheel but your not going to get away from that with any new truck because of the "hands free" bullshit.
Many people don't like the 6.0 and they have a bad wrap. If you stud, delete and chip it your going to have a very nice truck. They had one of the best transmission.

The 7.3 was great but your not gonna find one cheap or thats still solid. I would say best engine Ford ever built.

I don't know much about the 6.4.

I have had 4 6.7 trucks since 2010. I would stay away from the early modles due to turbo and electronic shift issues. 2017 seamed to be the sweet spot for that engine.

I also had a 2021 gmc duramax and that thing was a turd. I will never own another one.

If you have and Pstroke questions feel free to ask me. I also had a f350 with the V10. Loved the truck hated having popcorn spark plugs

Honestly, you have patched together junk for as long as I've known you. If your business has grown to a point to afford this, I agree that you deserve it. It might help relieve some stress having one truck you know you can count on. Might also help gain some more work when they see a reliable truck pull up to give estimates. There is a big difference between an owner showing up in a new work truck and not a new lifted platinum. Also a big difference than the owner showing up in a 20 year old truck.

Yep. You show up at my house to give me a quote in a new platinum I already know shits overpriced before you ever step out. 🤣

With that said, my painter didn't show up yesterday because his "truck broke down" 🤣

I'm going back to a gasser. Looking at the 7.3L Godzilla motor. I don't want a new diesel of any brand. Emissions stuff and higher costs aren't justified how I use a truck. I'll deal with slightly lower mpg on a gasser.

It isn't even lower these days. Running high test, that 7.3 will be cheaper by the mile than a 6.7.
