Not sure if anyone has been following the efforts to remove suppressors from the NFA. It looked promising but because of some sell-out Republicans that might not happen. Right now it’s looking like the $200 tax might be dropped but they will remain as an NFA item with all the background checks and restrictions on transfers and manufacturing that we currently have. Supposedly the biggest problems are David Kustof (R-TN) 202-225-4714 and Jason Smith (R-MO) 202-225-4404.

But the most infuriating rumor is that Suppressor Central is behind the scene opposing the removal from the NFA. One can only speculate that, if the rumor is true, they are trying to protect their business model. 😡

Im not surprised some of the suppressor companies and large online distributors are opposed to removing them from the NFA. It is a huge change to their business opperations. Once it goes into effect their inventory would disappear over night with everyone wanting a suppressor. It would probably take 1-2 years for manufactures to catch up and the market to stabilize. Even with the just the elimination of the 200 tax stamp this will up end the market but probably not as much as if they became generally legal. Silencer shop and Silencer Central have made a business model of processing form 1's. Silencer shop's finger print kiosks are in just about every decent sized gun shop now a days. Suppressor manufacturers are small companies and depending on their financial health major market changes and supply chain distributions can bankrupt small companies.
I do think if this goes into effect we will see a decent number of inexpensive european style supressors joining market. Previously on the US market suppressors had to have close to a lifetime service life cycle due to the tax stamp cost being prohibitive more disposable suppressors. Most US suppressors are full auto rated for durability. This isn't true for a lot of European and New Zealand made suppressors that you can just buy over the counter.

I think eliminating the tax is a step in the right direction. The HPA is a long shot and as we saw earlier this month is stuck in commitee. I would love to SBR/SBS' and suppressors removed from the NFA but I dont think the GOP will ever want to spend the political capital to do it. I believe the GOP is more pro the left wants to ban your guns, than they are pro second amendment. I would put Trump firmly on that list. I think the gun laws at the Federal level are pretty much stuck as the are for the next 15 years. The left has figured out they can pass their anti gun policies at the state level pretty effectively and the quagmire of district courts will uphold it. I believe disarmament will happen on the state level.
Now there are some "silver lining" or "lemons to lemonade" pro's to supressors remaining on the NFA without a tax stamp. The transfer will be pretty quick similar to an AOW. Currently the ATF is processing suppressor form 1's in days to couple weeks. This will slow down with an influx of new purchasers but i think will stabilize. Suppressors are already expemt from the ATF 5320.20 process so once your form 1 is approved to a pretty free to do with it as you like as long as you dont go to a state they are banned. Suppressors remaining on the NFA will probably dissuade some morons from buying them. It will also hopefully keep the left leaning states from passing kneejerk state level bans where Suppressors are still legal. Hopefully it will keep suppressors from becoming a involved in a glock switch type controversy. I look forward to buying some more cans without the government theft of 200 dollars.

I seen some of this and it has me in a pickle . I was getting ready to go through with it before I seen the articles yesterday. Now do I wait and possibly not be able to get my hands on one for awhile or pull the trigger now

Can you purchase one without a stamp? Can you legally own one but not use it?
