Hey Mike, I see that your from the Toledo area. I have been up there alot over the years. We built Buck Rd. In the early 90's.

I live a few miles from there. My neighbor is a retired iron worker out of Toledo as well.

Just got the word that our hunting land for the past 8-10 years has been leased out. I am SOL :smiley_boos: My chances of downing a few deer this year are slim due to losing this property. I need to do a mad scramble and come up with another place to hunt. I haven't bought beef in years. I'm pissed to say the least!!!

I was out Sat morning and evening. Saw 11 does and a couple small bucks but no shooters. My son missed a massive 8pt Sat night around 7. First time shooting at a deer....shot over him at 12 yards from a ground blind. I was nervous too as I would have def laid the smack down on that deer. Will be back out this weekend.

Well, I passed on a nice doe on the eve of the 8th. We have free passes to all does on that particular tract this year. Boy, how I would have loved TOO have ventilated her. It got down in the thirties that night. Good hanging weather.

Had a close encounter with a doe and two yearlings Friday evening down in Jackson Co. When I found a bunch of acorns on a ridge top that had a few scrapes and deer dropping all around I set up nearby with my climber. Around 6:00 I heard movement coming from the pines behind me and to my left, I turned my head and saw legs moving my way. About the same time that I saw them they stopped and stood still for about a minute or so. I was seated and my bow was still hanging on a hook on the tree. I was afraid to move. There was very little wind and the woods was quiet.

Finally they slowly walked closer to the acorn covered scrape but they were very cautious with every step. Through the fall colored leaves of the oaks and maples I could see glimpses of three deer. By this time they were only 15 yards or so from my tree when I finally was able to determine that the second one in line was a doe, with her two yearling fore and aft.

When the doe and one of the yearling got to the scrape they suddenly locked up and jumped back about 10 yards or so. I don't knew if they smelled me or smelled were I walked earlier when I came upon the scrape. For a full half hour they stood around motionless or moving ever-so slightly between the scrape and the edge of the pines. They never did stomp, snort or do the head-bob thing but were on high alert the whole time.

At one time I was able to grab my bow and eventually I even managed to stand up, all the while they milled around in the trees nearby. There was a time when the doe finally presented me with a shot but one of the yearlings was too close for me to risk drawing my bow. At one point the yearling came back to the scrape and began crunching acorns for a few minutes before it too got jumpy and scampered off and quick stepped it back towards the pines. They eventually all slowly slipped back into the pines, never to be seen again.

So close!!!

I have been out a few times...had a chance to shoot a little 4 pt at 8 yards but did not want to waste my tag as I have seen at least 6 different bucks 120+ with a couple easily 150. Lots of does too. Headed out tonight so a new stand that sets up perfect for any wind. Nice and roomy double stand...I may have to order some room service haha. Will keep the team posted

Sounds as though some of ya have had some great encounters. I've had 8 hrs. In a tree so far. Passed on a 8pt. And several does so far. I don't want to Whack a doe yet, buck bait IMO for the up coming rut. Good luck too all of my fellow Toozers.
