The Official Camper and Camping Thread

Had a camper given to me last year at Cave Lake campground in Pike co. It was in shambles, so I had to pretty much gut it and start fresh. Just about finished, still have some trim, painting and staining to do. It's been quite the project, especially since it's an hour and forty five minutes away. All new plumbing and water lines, new electrical service, water htr, floor, ceiling

Sorry I missed you guys this weekend. Had some issues with dickhead next door and dug 24 holes an planted arborvitaes. I'll be honest with everything going on i completely forgot about you being there until Sunday felt kinda shitty about it.. looks like you guys had fun! The wilds is a good place to venture to been there a couple times but it's been awhile.

Wife wants to go out west next year. We looked at renting a motorhome. Too expensive with the milage fees. We can rent a travel trailer with unlimited miles for a reasonable daily rate. She does not want to fly then rent, she does not like airplanes.

We have a ‘24 Silverado 1500 Z71 Duramax that is rated at to tow ~ 9800 lbs, I’d like to keep that number below 6800 lbs all in.

We have another couple that wants to join us on the trip.

What type of travel trailer should we be looking for?

Check site out before you rule out a motorhome, they have great deals with mileage packages and the motor homes are new not old as crap like cruise America.

Do you have any experience pulling a trailer? For just the 2 of you, I would recommend something in the 16-20' range, but would try and get a dual axle over single to help with if you blow a tire. Make/model/layout will be a personal choice.

Personally, I would rather be in a motorhome with a toad for that many miles, wind, weather, etc. I understand cost is a factor, but if you have never hauled a camper 300-400 miles/day, ure in for a surprise. Unless you're a seasoned road warrior, I dont think you will be able to cover as much ground as you could in a motor home each day.

Good luck on your selection and share pics pls!

Ditto on all of this, I gained a ton of respect for my friend that drives a semi after towing our camper long distance. It is more mentally tiring than you expect.

If 4 are going i would 100% go with an RV. Take turns driving and just be way more comfortable. Hell, I own a camper and I think I would consider renting an RV for a trip like that. If just my wife and I, and no time limit, I'd take our camper and take our time planning overnight stops every 5-6 hours drive time.
