Great thread indeed. My wife and I dream of retiring in TN or NC. The reality? I'll still need to work in Ohio. I'll never retire and our retirement income stream is in our Ohio based rental properties. So the thought of adding a second home has been discussed. Yet. . .why pay the money for repairs, maintenance and upkeep, insurance, and property taxes if you can't enjoy it? Might be better off over paying to rent a place a month (or 2-3 months) every year.

I'll be following along though. Doesn't cost us a dime to talk about it and dream.

Sorry NC is all full, seriously though it is a great state, lots of rural places, but cities close if needs or wanted. Short trip to the beach or the mountains. Lots of nice people too.

I'd rather be on the TN side of the Smokies. And the Smoky MTN side of NC. Our relatives are around Franklin/Highlands. Not a beach family. Lol
