The View: TOO Style...

Not a bad view if I say so myself

I hung this stand 18 months ago and today is my first time in. I'll need to make a few tweaks, but it's the right tree. A really nice 8 bigger than what I shot read the script at 7:15 giving me a few different shots. I will come back with a chainsaw in February and do some improvements along this south facing slope. It's hung for a N wind, but on a day with no sun, the thermals aren't doing what they'd be doing. Instead, my scent is sinking towards the food plot 100 yards below me in this picture.

But in true Appalachian style, the hill is right behind me. As of right now, I can't shoot that edge due to permission issues, but that may change. I'm able to shoot a 20 yard trail this direction, which is helpful and why I can't do a S wind. I can handle a good E wind here also.

With a skift of snow, you can see all kinds of movement from this spot.

I originally set this spot up for the girls because it's got great ingress/egress, there's bedding N, S, and W of us, and one of the best trails on the farm leads right to this bottom as deer go between bedding areas. I added the feeder in 2023 as part of the upgrades for the kids. I've always looked at this spot through a bowhunting lense (there's a treestand set 15 yards from the blind) but as I've sat here for gun season, I've realized how great of a gun spot it can be. Of the dozen or so deer we've seen, all were in gun range, but only 3 came to the feeder. I've seen several mature bucks here in the past 20 years, a lot of which could have been shot with a gun and not a bow. I'm going to build a true shooting house here (finally) and set this up for kids, grandkids, and me as I grow older and lazier.

This is looking west. On the left side of the pic is some great bedding, and to the right side is one of the best thermal hubs I've ever been in.

To the south is some great bedding where we stopped brushhogging a decade ago. It's a beautiful bedding area that's become a sanctuary over the years.

This is to the north looking down the holler towards the mouth of the bowl where the thermal hub is. There's a nice ridge spine that drops into the bottom here and I've seen tons of deer run it over the years. To the right side of the pic, there's a bunch of good bedding where again, we stopped 'hogging and it's become a great bedding area. Just above it is the old hay/crop field I'm slowly converting into native prairie.

With a little saw work, I'll have some great shooting lanes that I can maintain over the years. With a nice enclosed blind and the best access on the farm, it'll be a spot I "waste" a lot of time in over the next couple of decades.
