My first cover was a snap on version back in the day. Then I went with a trifold on my first Tundra. That got recycled to my current Tundra. It’s a Lund trifold and has served its purpose but has seen better days.

So I’m looking at replacing it. I’m stuck on the trifold version as it’s been my experience for the last 10 years. Not a fan of the roll up version on them, my buddy has one and it just seems like a PIA to deal with.

So what’s the brain trust have experience with? I’m a cheap ass so not looking for the Cadillac version of one, but a good quality cover that doesn’t allow a lot of water intrusion…..

I haul a lot of brush from storms at our place, so I fold the cover up a lot, so that’s why I like the trifold version of them.

I have been very happy with this roll up cover. I wasn't sure about since I have never had a soft roll up cover that Velcros down, but the two bars that go across it keep it from flapping much in the wind and it keeps the bed dry in heavy rain. The fit is very low profile and looks good, going on over a year and no issues.

I had an aluminum roll up one but it took up too much bed space.


Here are a few pictures I don't have a good one, I will try to get you one tonight. In the snow one it had about 8" on it until I remembered to brush it off.

Gonna lean towards a hard trip fold in the fall when I get my new truck... I forget what brand my friend has but he loves it... Rather expensive though... Over a grand...

Likely a Bak-flip. I thought about getting one for my current truck but it would be a waste. If I ever get another half ton I will likely get the Bak-flip.

Yep, need something too protect a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff that stays in the bed all year long. Floor jack, tire change kit as well as tie down straps.
Don’t need to spend $1500 too save a couple hundred from being lifted….

J.... Sounds like your looking for something just to keep Mother Nature out... Currently I take a small covered trailer when going to Illinois... It's only myself now so I don't need that and am selling it... Therefore I want something solid to store stuff in the bed on trips... Pretty much water tight... But I'm not spending a couple grand...

I have one that looks like Clays. It’s the only one I have had. I love that thing. As he said, it has a couple of support bars that roll up with the fabric. I wouldn’t put a lot of weight on it but I do set things on it pretty often. I also land my drone on it all the time. The drone is 9lbs. It does a great job.

I have the BackFlip, couple years now. Unlike a soft roll, you can't get in with just a pocket knife. This is my first truck with a locking tailgate. When the cover is closed and tailgatelocked it's as secure as being in the cab.

In torrential rains there's a wee bit of water in the outside valleys but it doesn't leak along the edges or trifolds. I've used it, one fold open, closed completely, all three open (full bed) rock solid.

I haul brush on my 4acres here monthly, keeping the FL jungle at bay. Works great.

When I have two sets of hobie yak stuff in there ~$2000, or travling when I have hunting gear including weapons, I pull into a hotel parking, lock it up and rest easy it's secure.

Went out to take a couple pics. From down and locked to open bed, about 30 seconds.

I have the back-flip on a 8’ bed. Loved it for some time then me hauling 150 qt ice chest, well they started to break the channels where the pull wire and latch is. Have to move them as it won’t close under the built in protectors. Eventually they broke I’m guessing from ice chest sliding hitting them while closed. Now the rubber gasket on the first flip is almost torn completely from use. Think I paid $1100 in 2018. Yes it’s lasted almost 8 years of heavy use so take that for what you will. When it finally shits the bed (which is any day), I’m not sure I will get another one or get a camper top and just do something different and pull a utility trailer if needed to haul something large like atv. I’m thinking the camper top, i can do something like Dustin did w his truck, only it won’t be just so I can keep my farts in to smell. More like primitive camp when I’m oos. Neither is cheap but what works for you 80% of the time is what you should get, not the 20%.

In my 8 foot bed I can put 150qt ice chest, a 75 yeti, my atv and other things and still have my tailgate closed.
