TOO 2011 Golf Thread

I look forward to this this coming weekend almost all year long. Aaron Reed Memorial Golf outing. A buddy I graduated with that was killed in Iraq in '05 with Lima Co. It's a high school reunion times 10 going to a great cause (Scholarship fund). We got 3rd last year with 11 under. I won two long drives but it was very very dry and I got some outstanding rolls haha. 1st beers are cracked around 8am and tons of good food! I'll let you all know how it goes!!

No doubt. I'd like to get involved in more outings like this. There is one Greg is playing in on Saturday I would have liked to have played in. TOO much stuff that day and I couldn't get a team together. Always fun to get on the course for a good cause...

well we shot 9 under for 8th place. Our other group shot 14 for 3rd. winner was 17. rained most of the outing but still a great day with old friends.

Our golf outing went well this weekend. I left with $65 in my pocket, a net gain of $16.50 after paying of my round and lunch; which I promptly spent on beer! We played stroke play, then drew cards for partners for the front 9, then again on the back. I had the third best round of the day out of 37 golfers with a 12 over 82. I drew the top golfer as my partner on the front (He was 5 over 75) and we split $80. Then I drew one of the two female golfers who actually par'd the two holes I bogey'd on the back, so we took second and split $50. Good day overall. I drove a 330 yard Par 4 and left my ball 6" off the green. I followed that up with a chip in birdie on 9, then birdied 10 in the midst of an even par 9 from my 7th to 16th holes. If my first 6 and last 3 had been better, it could have been the round of lifetime. The first 6 holes were all about working the kinks out, the last three were influenced my intoxicants! LOL!!!

I feel I'm to the point now with my game that I can justify a new set of clubs next year. With any luck, I'll be able to set aside $1K or so in the next year and maybe upgrade my set come mid-year next year...

Total Rounds: 16

I played the best round of my life (score wise) Friday night at Lakeside. I shot a 7 over 77 on what is easily my favorite course. Followed that up with a 12 over 81 on Oxbow the next day, and dropped a 1 over 36 on 9 at Oxbow last night. I've been playing pretty well lately and I'm happy with how things have gone. My handicap is easily down 3-4 strokes this year and I'm consistenly playing better than bogey golf. Might be time for a new set of clubs!!!

why would you want to mess with near perfection...Those are some great scores Jesse...I've been golfing once a week, teaching my oldest stepson the game...he is hitting the ball pretty well for 10yrs.old...almost better than me sometimes...I've got my stroke back now, hopefully be back to playing the way I did in high school soon

Well for starters, my game is ugly despite the scores. I'm lucky in the fact that by and large, the courses I play are wide open. Twice yesterday, I drove 330+ and followed that with 8 and 9 irons from the wrong fairway, over trees and on the green. Sure it was a GIR, but I was aiming for the green, not the pin because I had no shot, or in the case of the last hole, I couldn't even see 5% of the green. I tend to miss my irons to the point a more forgiving club would definitely change my game. If I'm 150 in with a look right now, I'm getting up and down in 3 with regularity, which is something I won't complain about. But I'd like to develop some more precision in my game and new clubs would help. I liken it to my shooting ability with my Whitetail II and the XT. Sure I shot the Whitetail well, but I shoot the XT even better. I figure a well made cavity backed club cut to my length and a nice grip could only make a man play better! LOL!!!

I was gonna post my success from yesterday as well, but after seeing those scores Jesse, i think I will keep it to myself! LOL

I will tell you the more I play with these irons, the more confidence I gain. I know the distance i can hit every club, and I have been sitting myself up a lot based off of that, and it has really helped me. Perfect example yesterday was #18 , the 500y par 5 @ Woodridge. I hit my 4 iron off the tee in fear of the big bunker ahead, then laid up with my 7 iron just before the creek, around 195 yards out. I knew I could hit my 4 iron around 200, so I lined up and hit a beautiful shot. The ball rolled past the cup about 8ft, but passed within a foot of the cup. It's the confidence in knowing i will get the distance I need out of the club every time that has got me playing a bit differently these past two weeks. The driver has been staying in the bag more and I've been using the clubs I know I can hit, and just being smart about how I play each hole.

It sounds like your game is coming around quite nicely Jesse. Now's the time to take it up to next level = play more often.

You will see continued improvement if you do. The clubs....there just clubs. :smiley_coolpeace:

I've played w/ Titleist DCI's ever since high school...now I have a set of the Oversized DCI's and love them even more...they are so pure, forgiving and long...Thinking about re-gripping them...grips are fine, just want to see if there is a better feeling grip out there...I would recommend DCI's to anyone, of course it's all about how it feels in your hands.

My brother and I went out yesterday. Shot one of the best rounds I can remember. Pulled a 78. Had 8 pars and 2 birdies. Any time I can shoot around 80 or below is good enough for me!

I played 18 holes on Friday and 18 on Saturday....I had a 76 on Friday and a 3 over 75 on Saturday at a tough course in Fort Wayne...played from the blue tees also....hit the driver exceptionally long all day and putted real well, finally.

I would like to hook up with some of you guys and play a round or 2 sometime.

Some great rounds of golf guys! I haven't touched the clubs near enough this year. Playing in an outing on the 20th with my brother and a guy I used to work with. Should be fun!

Im thinking about buying either a Callaway diablo octane black tour driver or the taylor made r 11...cant decide, anyone have any opinions?

I've always been biased to Taylor Made vs. Callaway when it came to woods, but I don't have first hand experience with either. My buddy has an R11 and loves it. I played with a guy in college that swore by Callway. I would say go to a shop and grab a demo driver of both and whack a bucket of balls.
