TOO Garden Thread

I have what appears to be some sort of ground cover ALL over the place. Small, two leaved sprouts. Amazing how fast it has come on and grows...
 
Once they start its a pain in the ass to get it under control. I'm going to wait a few days then spray mine with a healthy dose of round up, hopefully that helps.
 
My wife freaked out about the low temps last night and a couple more nights this week... Had to improvise!

1/2" PVC
3.5 mil plastic
Staple gun
Couple 2x6 and rocks

Very inexpensive, around $40 for the plastic and pipe. I thought I was going to have to heat it to make the bend, but I didn't. I can reuse the material for years also. Kinda like a bunch of mini greenhouses.

Sounds like the same shit I dealt with last year. It's a real bitch. I basically just picked away at it every evening. As long as I stayed up on it and caught the plants early it was easy and time involved was minimal. My advice to you is get a hoe if you don't already have one. Not a flat edged one... Get one that's pointed. Makes for easy weeding. A major back saver.

I've only had 7 tenths in two weeks. I've been watering but nothing beats a good all night soaker. I had to replant my tomatoes due to the only three rabbits in western Allen co ate 16 plants off two days after planting them. I will say hair from my neighbors beauty shop around them did the trick the haven't messed with the new one at all. I put hair around them the day I planted them. So far it has worked.
 
Does dog hair work? I groomed poodles today and threw out a full brown grocery bag full, but that was only from one dog. I still have another to groom.
 
Better late than never. Downsized from 3 rows to 2 this year. East row always seems to do better. I suspect it could be from the east row of plants shading the middle and western most rows. Just a theory. So this year we have two rows and the west row is elevated higher than the east row. Guess we will see if it works.

I must say the 43hp Kubota ran the tiller much easier than the 30hp Kioti ever did. Probably a bit much for the old tractor but I always took small bites.

I did hit the area with RoundUp last weekend. Hopefully that helps a bit. Still need to get straw placed thick to aid in keeping the weeds down. Did get the tomato cages up and irrigation system running.

I found a free day yesterday so I snuck in my garden.
Green beans, peas, pumpkins, water melon, cantaloupe, various peppers, and 14 variety tomatoes.

Been working on the garden and now have everything in. Now I gotta put a 2ft high chickenwire fence all around to keep the critters out.

Those wood buckets at the corners are for throwing rocks and coal and roots and big pieces of mulch that I'm finding - the topsoil that I bought was NOT impressive.

the Kohlrabi I planted about a week ago is sprouting - none of the taters or other seed items I'd planted have sprouted yet.

Planted short rows running east-west at the suggestion of my neighbor, he said that way the shorter plants don't get overshadowed by beans and taters and such..

This is the hard part, waiting for stuff to come up. I'm really excited. :smiley_coolpeace:
