Entire flock is molting, they look pathetic lol! Need to get on a yearly rotation of spring chicks so they lay as pullets thru the winter, or increase the flock size so I can waterglass another bucket to be at 10gal total. Gonna have to buy eggs for a few weeks here soon.

May rethink putting a light in the coop, but feel they deserve the rest.

Mine are doing the same (molting) but I've noticed that the first year molt is the worst for knocking out egg production.

The flock is done molting and back to laying 4-5/day. Finally added a light and timer, time to get back to 9-10/day.

Only 1 Black Maran of the 5 bought in August has survived. The other 4 became hawk snacks. Funny to watch it work, picked off the little ones first and worked its way up to "shit, I cant carry any bigger"...."now I have a headache, or look, nothing but green pastures and love".....I don't think we'll be seeing that hawk anytime soon.

I open the door every day to see if they'll venture out....fugg u is the response since the white stuff started to stick.

The shed ours are in is not insulated, but I've kept the red heat lamp on during the day and it's quite pleasant in there. I flip back to timer at dusk but think I might leave it on next week when it's cold cold so it'll be on over night. Worst case scenario is a smoldering chicken BBQ in the AM.

With the amount of chicken, rabbit, goat/sheep shit I'm dealing with now i decided to do a garden this year. I like older garden tractors and Picked up a cub 149 with a brinly plow , tiller , and blower. Plan on doing some painting to make it look more presentable as well as the implements. My extended sleeve hitch came today so I won't have to take the tiller pto off just to plow . I managed to get the plow adjusted after several days of soaking with PB but naturally the threads are stripped but I was able to get the depth right so it will stay in that position and ill paint it for now until i find a nicer one. The tiller works well just needs a coat of paint and a belt , the seals leak a little but IH filled the gearboxes with 0 grease back when they made them so I think I'm just going to drill and tap a hole on the top of the gear box and top it off with 00 grease and let her rip. I posted the blower online to trade for a snow blade. Going to get everything going mechanically to use this year and then plan to tear it all apart next winter and go over everything and repaint. I'll definitely be planting in a grid pattern where i can fit the tractor between everything with the tiller for weed control.

Just remembered there is a garden thread probably should've posted this there my bad 🤷‍♂️

It was 65° down here, I was on a tractor with the brush hog cutting up kudzu and some briars that got away from me last fall….
Tulips are sprouting and the garlic is about 4-6” tall…..
We’ll be cutting grass before you know it….
Wife did get all of her seeds ordered last week.
