@Hedgelj - they started with about 32 hatchlings, lost 3 or 4 in that stage, lost 5 more (one to thier bird dog, it got out of the tractor - that one doesn't count 😉). So +20% failure to mature. The meat chicken's they raised were as you described, genetically mod'd to provide palatable protein in the most expeditious manner possible. They are just thinking of rising a meat breed that might take another week or two for full maturity and get back into a ~10% or less error curve with a better heath standard in the breed they do next. They're just starting this part of thier homesteading journey, time will tell.

They've raised about 10 broods of egg chicken's and guinea's and thier error from eggs 🥚 to maturity is about 5% so I think that's the biggest nugget they're trying to crack.

Day 236 (almost 8 months), and we can see the bottom row. Worked out well to help spread 3 growing boy's appetite. Gonna need to expand the flock to get back to my weekly $ amount selling, to cover beer.
