I don't hunt turkeys. I strategically, and carefully plan well coordinated turkey assassinations (most of the time) lol.
 
I've been using the same ratty vest for the longest time. It has holes in mostly all the pockets now lol What vest would you guys recommend?

I hate turkey vests. They are uncomfortable to me and I don't feel like paying upwards of $100 for a turkey vest just because it says tactical on it. I have an old bird belt from Cabela's that they used to sell in camo and I used that to carry my calls. It just has 2 pockets on the front and a game bag in the back that I put a seat cushion in. Similar to this one (only without the suspenders, this would be an upgrade): http://www.gandermountain.com/modpe...sc=Walls-Legend-Belted-Dove-Game-Bag&i=731272. When it comes down to it, I carry a box call and a slate, bottle of water, and not much else. I carry my decoys in an $8 Herters decoy bag. It's certainly not glorious or as comfortable, but I have about $30 into the setup and I think it's more functional than a turkey vest.

Even moreso, if you're going to be sitting in a chair in a ground blind, you're going to spread your stuff out anyways, so what is the point of the fancy vest?

Bob Evans by 8:30 is the battle cry! Lol. By the time season rolls around we've scouted them so many times we make bets on the minute they'll first roost gobble. Lol. We're what, 6 hunts up and 4 birds down for the first two days of season over the past three years.

Together we have smoked 6 birds. And every bird pre season we targeted has bit the dust the first 2 days. I'll also add back in my lone wolf ninja days I accumulated 4 opening morning or day after harvests. Statistics are on Travis's side lol, as long as he can shoot straight.
 
Thats the great thing about turkeys. They are usually ridiculously easy to pattern . Long as nobody effs with em its a pretty easy process to kill em . Sometimes ya find a problem bird but for the most part long as the hunter doesn't screw up its game over .

That's the thing around here. Birds are super scarce. So much so that nobody really bothers to hunt them. They're unpressured and stupid. Just small pockets here and there. I think the county season total is only 14-19 a year, and Alex and I make up 3 or so of them. Lol.
 
Ive been seeing birds consistently on our back 8. Not a whole lot of options in terms of set up , but ill be giving it a shot. Would be cool to wack my first bird on our prop.

I'm gonna have to disagree with ya on this one. I've never found it easy to just go out and kill a turkey. Sure you may patten them and know where they roost. But how often do you go out and get one to fly down and come right to you? Turkeys can change their mood and decide something isn't right in an instant. They're almost so dumb they're smart sometimes. And come early-mid season I don't think there's such a thing as patterning them. Pre-season is a different story. They seem to kinda hand around the same area and act about the same. But come killin time I always feel like they scatter and make things difficult. That's just my 2 cents.

I will say that the challenge and interaction with turkeys is awsome. That's what makes it fun to me. Runnin and gunnin!

Now I'm getting stoked to go chase those bearded bastards around! Haha
 
I watched 6 birds gobble and strut in my big food plot yesterday morning. My cams have showed as many as 11 beards at one time in recrng months. Looking forward to killing the beard dragger I saw yesterday. Pretty sure its the same bird that has schooled me 2 years running.
