TOO Turkey Report '18

Bad day after this moment. When I feel up to it, I'll share more.

Saw turkeys strutting in an open field during the rain today. Giles said they were out there trying to stay dry. All I know is I had little desire to get out until today. Bit of an itch growing in my crawl.

Day 1 in WV was a bust. We never heard a thing. It was cold, wet and windy. I stopped by a buddies to try to get one going later in the morning and his wife said she heard 2 while putting their daughter on the bus. Another buddy killed one attacking his funky chicken...it was the only one he heard.

Saturday in Ohio - I had birds hammering all day, Id shut my truck door and they would gobble. Took a drive and spotted birds strutting all over the darn place.

Two days in a row I've driven by turkeys in full strut on one of my properties. Sure hope they don't run out of steam.

Hens don't want anything to do with those Tom yet. Looking at the weather report it seems like Youth Season is going to kick it off and Monday should be smoking. For once Ohio turkey season is going to come in perfect

One thing I hatebis how open the woods are now . Makes it hard getting in close to a bird once he starts gobbling . If ya roost em the night before you can get into their bubble but if you aren't able to do that and wait to hear em off the limb before ya try slipping in you'll hafta be careful .

We should have killed a bird each morning in KY and each of them were all alone . Weather was so crappy I think the hens were just miserable and wanted to be left alone perhaps ?

See what happens . Luckily I don't feel like there's a magic few days of prime time for turkey like there is for the whitetail rut . They are pretty killable every week of the season

Do you think maybe it’s been by design in the past to let them breed for a few weeks before shooting them? Or is that given credit in the wrong place?

Haven’t heard a gobble in two days, have been hearing them every morning. I think this cold front and wind shut them down.

Wind and cold definately put a dent in the activity in my opinion... I love hunting the morning after a nice sunny hot day.. Usually the following morning is great..

This could shut them down at the house. I wasn't sure I could get out opening day with the new gig, but I think I can now, so I'm excited to see what happens.
