Well I’ve been looking around a little bit and want too install a transfer switch on the power meter to plug the generator into in case of power loss. We’re off the beaten path and I’m of the mind set of not if, but when it happens I want to be ready.

This is an option I’m Looking at, simple and plug and play installation. I’m also looking for opinions of others who’ve been down this road.

I'll be keeping an eye on this one. I'd like to do the same here at some point.

I'm trying to remember but I think Kevin had a thread about this a couple years ago.

Did a quick search and didn’t find anything so just posted another one 😂

Yep, that's what I have. Lol, you guys have great memories, hell I forget I even have that. Never had to use it yet, so that's a good thing. You won't find anything anything else easier I bet J. Price looks 'bout what I'd expect. The 50 amp cord or whatever will have hefty price tag. I think mine is 50ft & the power co. supplied that which was a cost saver.

Just wait until the first major snow storm, (and by that I mean 2 inches) you will see major freak out.

Edit it doesn’t even have to happen, just the talk of it will cause major freak out

Yeah, we witnessed it on a freezing rain scare a week or so ago. 130 school delays in a tricounty area. Never even happened.

I have a mechanical interlock in my box. Either the main is on or the 30 amp to the plug outside is on and not both. I can turn breakers on and off as needed.

Elaborate on install and cost if you would kind sir.
My panel is an Eaton/CH and the interlock is made specifically for the model of panel that I have. It around $70 at Lowe's. It basically installs over your panel and let's you back feed your entire distribution system without the risk of killing a lineman. Some people simply turn off the main and back feed their panel through a 30 amp breaker. The interlock forces you to choose one or the other.

THIS! I don’t go on storm work because of how many people hook directly into the grid. That’s how people in my line of work die.
