Tree Rats and dove!

Good time once again. Glad you made it over Giles. I think i went through about 50 to get my birds. Suckers were flying high! Public land on opening day is always fun, only one sissy in the bunch...

Yep! It was a great time as always. Nice to see everyone again and put a face to some new names. I think Travis and I went through about 60 shells each. The birds sure were keeping their altitude today.

Had a good time. It was great seeing everyone. Lathe sure showed them gw's once they were away!

Was he cordial?

After they walked away Lathe (think that was that big dudes name) set them strait with some real tough talking. Hahaha

Mason tried to get us all arrested...someone almost smashed a skeeter on his forehead with the buttstock! LMAO

Anyone have a plug? Hahaha

The meeting with the GW's was probably the highlight of the hunt. I got some good laughs.

Was he cordial?

Yeah. Nice guys. You could tell they were only there because they had to go through the motions. No way hell they would be able to figure out who fired the shot. By the time they arrived there was only 1 person out of 12 or so left that were there when we got there. And we arrived about an hour after it happened. From talking to them the guy was ok. Just got peppered a little. What likely happened was he went to the hospital and gunshots have to be reported to the authorities. The cops took his statement and turned it over to the wardens who then drove out.

Damn... Been there.... When we were kids we got peppered by some pheasant hunters while rabbit hunting....
Glad they weren't head hunting....

The upside; I'm betting that guy won't be taking up any room on the dove fields next Sept. 1! Sissy should stay home...

Went after some tree rats this morning. Drove to the back gate and slipped in the woods about 20 yards and stood for 5 minutes before I heard leaves rustling. Shortly thereafter I dropped the hammer on the first squirrel. Not 5 minutes later and 30 yards down the trail I heard cutting. Back tracked and set up next to a big white oak where I had a clear view of the hickory where the cutting was coming from. Wasn't long before I spotted the culprit perched on a branch in the wide open. I was about to lay the smack down when I heard the tell tale sound of a squirrel hopping from branch to branch. Knowing the cutter would hold tight at the shot, I waited on the runner to close the gap. Once I had a clear shot at my 11 o'clock, I dropped the runner, turned to my 2 o'clock and found the cutter. Moments later I collected my bounty for the morning. 3 shots, 3 kills. I have left from last year, so it's time for some pot pies!
