COSHOCTON — A Vermont man has died after an accidental fall from a tree stand Thursday afternoon.

The Coshocton County Sheriff's Office said an emergency call was received at 2:22 p.m. about a man who had fallen from a tree stand in the 42000 block of County Road 23. The man was identified as William Lockerby, 48, of Putney, Vermont. He was pronounced dead on scene by the Coshocton County Coroner's Office from injuries sustained in the fall.

Assisting on scene were the Walhonding Valley Fire District, Jackson Township Fire Department and Coshocton County Emergency Medical Services.

Yeah…. And the older we get the more undesirable a hang on trees stand is!
Ric and i are a month away from 60 years of age and we still manage to hang and hunt. However, it’s getting more and more harder to install screw in steps and climb 20-25’!
Going to have to use ladder stands and crossbows if we want to continue hunting during bow season!🙄

Unbelievably sad. I'd lke to know how these happen. Stand not secure, slipped going up/down, Fell out of the seat somehow. For me the most precarious part on my ladder stands is turning around at the top to sit. Going up I've almost grabbed on to the shooting rail in the dark thinking it was a secure part of the stand.
