Fucking karma.

Samsung. But... I also have a 55" TCL Roku TV and it's solid. But the 60" Samsung in our living room is 11 years old and has never skipped a beat. Same TV is $500 now and MSRP was $2K when it came out. Crazy how prices have dropped and tech/quality have only gone up.

Skipping a beat today...

This happened around year two and after a lot of research, I pulled the back off and snipped the connection at a specific spot on the circuit board. It fixed it and it's been 8 years no issues. It just reset itself during a commercial break, but this is the second time today. Could be a network/Roku/YouTube issue, but it's an identical issue to what I fixed before. I'd love to know how many hours are on this thing, but it's well into the thousands.

As much as I don't really want to buy a new TV, when I do, I'm looking forward to an upgrade.

Sorry i was late to the party on this.

I have learned over the years I worked cable that the Samsung and Sony TVs are the best options. A would also say LED over Plasma. Picture quality on both are hard to beat and I've seen about every make out there. I've been out of the loop for a few years but I would say it still rings true today with those two being top picks. The other thing that sold me with them are the app stores seem to have a better selection of apps if wanted/needed.
I would also agree with Dustin on the refresh rate. The higher that is the better fast action HD movies and sports will play. Watch a low rate and during a big action with explosions and a lot of fast moving cameras the screen will lag. I call it the Matrix effect lol.

The only reason I ended up with the Samsung is the compatibility with my Samsung phone. Other then that I would flip a coin with those two brands.

Hoytmania.... Wishing many years of service from your new TV.... I ended up getting my son a Samsung series 7 70 inch... After comparing the 7 vs 8 it seems the 8 had a few more bells and whistles that IMO were not needed... Picture was the same, I upgraded the TV to 70 inches..

Time to retire our 2008 Panasonic Viera 55" plasma to the master bedroom. Looks like Samsung is getting the nod in this thread, but have to ask if anyone has experience with the Hisense brand that Best Buy carries.

No. I don't think this is an area I like to venture far from what is proven to work. This is a product you would "just live with" until it goes to complete crap. Meanwhile, you hate the choice you made when you should've moved it to the garage and replaced it years ago. The extra cost for my main living area to be the most comfortable for me, is worth just buying right the first time.

No experience with Hisense.... But like most have said: Samsung.... I'd just skip the shopping around and buy a Samsung... Got the Samsung for my son at Christmas and they love it... Usually watch the TV in the bedroom ( Vizio ) but watched a Penquins game Thurs. night on the Samsung in the family room...
What a difference... Enjoyed the game much better....

No personal experience with that brand Adam. I know the brand and have limited exposure so I can't say one way or another.

I'm like Dave in the getting the tried and true for the livingroom. I would suggest doing a smaller "test TV" in the bedroom, garage, man cave or something like that. If it doesn't live up to your expectations at least your not stuck with a 55+" regret.

Only other time I get a similar error is when I first turn the TV on and try to immediately launch an app like spectrum or Netflix. The TV needs a minute or two to connect to the network and load apps so I've learned to be a little more patient lol.

Same here. Check you signal strength. The only time I've gotten that is when the internet went out and it couldn't reconnect.

Usually just have to change the channel or something and it'll start working again. But if I run the firestick, I never have a problem.
Could be the particular app your running being a POS. My Spectrum app buffers all the time. I even tried plugging it directly to the router with a CAT6 and it still gives me the wheel of death. Yesterday was especially horrible. Disney+ gives me a problem from time to time as well. I can run Netflix and never have an issue. Same with hulu.

Nope because the TV won't even let me open an app without internet connection. It is the TV.
