Excellent choice! It is arguably the most beautiful state east of the Mississippi. Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and Camden make the short list. Portland is a great foodie town if restaurants are your thing. They also probably have more craft breweries per capita than anywhere I’ve been. Lots of history there, too. Take a tour of Casco Bay. Hit as many lighthouses as you can. They’re all different. Take in as much of the rugged coastline as you can as well. Camden is an absolutely beautiful quintessential New England harbor town. You can easily spend a day there just strolling the streets, hitting the shops, eating and walking around the harbor. Acadia is just as impressive as many of the national parks out west and spills into the Atlantic. Do a couple hikes and take in the views. Whatever you decide to do while you’re there, I doubt you’ll be disappointed. Enjoy!
Acadia and the coast are what she is wanting to see. New Hampshire looks beautiful too.

I lived in AZ for 15 years and I stayed on a guys property 10 miles south of the Grand Canyon. I refuse to pay $ to see a hole in the Earth that nature made. It is $25 a car if I remember. Just looked it up $35 now. Not to do anything other than use my eyes to look. Screw that racket.

We are currently headed towards Vermont, NH and Maine. Somewhere on I86 in NY. A beautiful drive that is very rural. Spent last night in Erie Pa. Watched the sun set over Lake Erie. Checked out the Erie Maritime museum this morning. Very interesting. Boarded the USS Brig Niagara, a major player in the sea battles on the lake in 1812. I will try to post anything else that seems cool on this trip. Staying in Albany this evening.

The stay in Vermont has been a total bust as far as the weather goes. You win some, you lose some. It has rained since daylight yesterday morning. The only thing we did yesterday was relax in the cabin and watch the pond level rise. Today we are driving through New Hampshire on our way to the Maine coast. We had planned to drive up Mt Washington but with the low cloud cover we will skip that.
The only cool wildlife yesterday was a kingfisher hanging out at the pond.

Well I mentioned Maine and she took a liking to it so it looks like we are headed northeast. For less than the cost of rental car we can drive there and back even with higher gas prices and also save on plane tickets. Plus we can hit Niagara Falls, Vermont and New Hampshirite too. Anyone have must see destinations in those states?
Kezar Lake. Went there back in 2000ish. It's beautiful.

My brother just moved back from NH after being there for 7 years. Absolutely beautiful country in Vermont, NH and Maine....but I'll take it in the winter any day of the week. Enjoy and check out some of the Maine lighthouses if ya get a chance!

Thanks for sharing, you need to give us your does and don'ts that you would change. I need to. Start planning this trip.
Believe me when I say I can not be trusted as a travel coordinator. I am anti-social and don’t drink so it would be a boring trip if you listened to me. But I will give you my experiences and thoughts.
Stunning sunrise over Penobscot Bay.

Spent the day at Acadia National Park. Not what I thought it would be. There were spectacular views for sure but there isn’t enough parking. Not even close. The few small lots that there are had cars circling like vultures waiting on someone to leave. Even if there was parking you need to be into hiking to see much. My wife is no longer able to do that. We did spend the evening on Cadillac mountain and watched a beautiful sunset. If you go to Acadia that is a must. We ate lunch in Bar Harbor. A cool seaside town with lots of shops, food and scenery. A few pics from the day.
