Velvet starting to shed...

It's very early, but anyone have bucks starting to shed velvet... Someone told me they saw one or two hard horned... I thought sure you did... Just now my son sent me a pic of a young buck in his yard... Looks like velvet might be gone......

Yeah, hard to tell in that photo cause velvet in daylight looks pretty light in color, but you know it that I'll be watching out for hard antlers. Usually it doesn't happen around my neck of the woods until right around the third week of September.

Definitely a bit early here. One of my regulars has super light-colored velvet and from the road in the evening, he looks hard horned. We usually see the first signs around Labor Day weekend here.

Last year's first hard horn that showed up at the feeder on the 4th of September.

All the deer in Kentucky last year were hard horned before their season opened on Sept 6th. I follow whitetail edge and Ben posted a video of one hard horned yesterday at a feeder.

They just killed a full velvet buck on October 1 in the new Chasing November series of Midwest Whitetail. Crazy how it can vary so widely!
