First stop was Iwo Jima. Plane was running late this morning so we had enough time to assemble for the picture and that's it.

Arlington for changing of the guard.

The plane that hit the pentagon flew over top of this hotel, taking out some of the antennas. Saw this while visiting the Air Force memorial.

WW2 and Washington monument.

Finally we hit the Korean and Vietnam memorials. Didn't take any pictures there, too somber and was starting to rain.

My travel buddy Ron.

At the DC AP right now, loading up around 7. All in all it has been a great day.

There's supposed to be a big welcome home ceremony when we land for the Vets.

"Thank you for your service."

For those wondering why some of us Veterans laugh or make jokes at each other, it comes with the brotherhood. Some go through service fairly uneventful, some see some serious shit that you'll never be able to understand, and chances are there was a whole lot of bullshit and 'hurry up and wait' in between. Most of us get through our time in uniform and afterwards with a messed up sense of humor. Remember, most Veterans joined in their late teens or twenties, were given their first real taste of responsibility, some with no real authority and others with far too much, some got a gun and went to war, and some had to mop the parking lot in the rain or sweep the dust off the sand.

The bond we share though is stronger than family, and when one of us falls down we'll laugh at them, call them a fucker, then pick them up and get them any help they need. Most are proud to have served, even if we aren't proud of everything we did while in uniform, and most of us would gladly do it again without hesitation. It can be the best time in our lives, it can be the worst time, and we get through it in different ways. We're all brothers and sisters though, regardless of the color of our skin, if we're inbred or educated, and whether we hand out basketballs at the gym, turn wrenches on billion dollar equipment, or stack bodies like it ain't no thing.

So don't get upset if one Veteran laughs at another when you see something that makes you want to thank them for their service. That's just how we are with each other. We serve because it's who we are, and it's not for everyone. But just realize, when you think 'thank you for your service' Kermit may very well be showing you what our service was like.

Went to the VA today for the first time in 8 years after I swore I'd never go back after the BS I dealt with last time. They kept reaching out the last couple months for an environmental evaluation to evaluate you for exposures. Half of it is to see if you have any issues and to document who was exposed to what and where. The other half is for the research in gathering information of said places and what went on there to help future claims for veterans as issues arise , all part of the pact act. The wife pushed me to go and at least participate as it could be beneficial being documented if i had any issues in the future for myself as well. Well ive been hiding some other Health issues from her for quite some time. I'll be the first to admit I'm not the best at taking care of myself especially when it involves going to a medical facility , to many bad previous experiences other then that I have no excuses other than I'm stubborn. I realize it's been a selfish act on my end as it's not fair to her or the kids and thought what the heck I'll talk about some of those issues with doctors while I'm there after the evaluation. It took a different turn as i didn't get to talk to them much about the issues I've been hiding since the doc decided to take my blood pressure torwards the end of the evaluation after mentioning a few things and about flipped on me. Next thing I know i was being dragged downstairs to the open doctor of the day and had my bp taken 4 more times , EKG , another evaluation , chest x rays , blood draw , urine sample , bp meds and apsirin at the pharmacy and out the door I went waiting for results and follow up appointments. It was an interesting unplanned day at the Parma VA to say the least but I must say this. The level of care and professionalism of the workers is by far way better than it was the last go around I had with the VA. Just thought I'd share a kind of positive interaction with the VA for once lol.

My grandpa was a 101st 504th "Devils in Baggy Pants" survivor of Bastogne with 3 combat drops, he was with them from the outset in North Africa so the great story in the video below I actually heard from my grandpa in 1988-89 as a division mith. It was not long after I was commissioned... It was only after that he'd share his combat experiences with me. I just fell across this story surfing tonight. When you have an hour, pour a dirnk, and let master story teller Vincent regile you with a poingint life/war story. I'm smiling at grandpa through a little mist... the mith was real. 🍺🍻

WWII 101st Airborne Paratrooper Vincent Speranza’s Story of Combat and his Famed Bastogne Beer Run.

I ran across this video and figured it was already in here, damn what a story and what a story teller. I ordered his book and will with much respect buy a copy for any TOO brother that is a veteran a copy of it.

here he is singing

It'll be interesting to see how it unfolds across the DoD and to the men and women, my son being one effected and relaesed, that were forced out by the Mandatory CoVid vax's and illogical DEI mandates currently in place across the services.

A steady measured approach to changing it back to sanity is my hope, rather than slapping the stick hard over with a 1,000,000 serving members.
