Who needs a barn lol. Greg has a brand new shed. I cut my deer up in an 8x8 shed last week. Of course I had to move half my stuff out to the yard to do it but I was not about to stand out in the rain and cut it up lol.

Hell a garage and a plastic table will work. It really isn't that bloody of a process.

Thanks to guys like been, a little coaching and some hot weather, I just dove in doing in my garage. Notice the close proximity to the door.....the look on the wife's face when she came out was hilarious. She had no idea it would only be 3' from her face :)

Next time I will dig out the table and be a little bit more organized about it. Finally got a gambrel too, not some hillbilly ass plywood and ratchet strap. I laid the 1/4's onto newspaper - bad idea. Use plastic wherever possible. Thanks again fellers!

:smiley_clap:

Yeah I got a wierd look from my supplier when I stopped in unannounced. Painters plastic (I never use it. I use canvas drops and contractors roll paper), box of latex gloves, bag of rags, and a box of construction bags. I was in a hurry which is unusual as I tend to BS a bit. The lady at the register was giving me the stink eye like I had some people waiting for me in a hollow tree...

Try sawdust or unscented kitty litter. ;)

See, I grew up butchering deer. Every deer dad and I shot we butchered. We never took deer to the processor. I have only taken my last three years worth if deer to he processor simply because i don't have the space to do it, and often times I don't have the time. I feel comfortable taking deer to the two processors I deal with because they do one hell of a job. If and when I finally get around to building a garage, I plan on getting back into butchering my deer. I would just like to have the dedicated work space where I can go and do it, then hose everything off and be done!

Ahhh, I completely understand, dude. There are certainly things that aren't any fun doing yourself if you're not set up for it, and butchering deer is one of them. Of course it can be done in limited space, with just one dull knife, but I guarantee you'll be wore out when you're done if you do it this way.

Too soon bro!

5Cent - that is the most ghetto gambrel I have ever seen. Gets the job done I suppose, but maybe you should put one on your Christmas list! We have one that's permanent in the garage, slick pulley system that makes it easy.

I think there's a ton of benefits of butchering your own deer, in terms of its reward and quality. That guy can do it in 8 minutes, but I sure do handle my tenderloins a little more gently!

I grew upbutchering as well. I always have a large drip pan to catchblood when hanging that also doubles as a scrap container. Thingss I always have for butchering are 2 sharp knives, plastic for the meat, 2 large roasting pans to seperate my burger/stew meat from my roast's and steaks. A sawzaw for cutiing through hind quarter and ribs, and a pan of warm soapy water and towels to constantly wipe hands with. I will completely debone all meat and seperate then bring into kitchen where I will steak out what I want, grind up burger,, and vacuum seal everything. I did start to finish on my big doe last night in a little less than 2 hours by myself. Thats from skinning through cleanup
