A 459 gr arrow at 216 fps is plenty enough energy at 100 with a good broadhead.
Agreed. I think it’s funny when people questions shots on a whitetail at 40 yards...but are ok with an 80 yard shot on an elk! Practice and knowing your equipment is what kills animals.

As I was typing that it seems like we already covered this conversation😂. My bad if we did, kinda had a lot going on lately. Plus my ball hair is close to turning grey. 😂

I think it's an eastern hunter thing. Most western hunters have no issue with it and consider an 80 yard shot at an elk the same as we do a 40 yard shot. I've never shot at an elk with a bow but i have been watching a shit ton of videos and one thing I've noticed is they just aren't as squirley as a whitetail. 95% of the time they don't immediately bust out at the sound of a bow rather they turn their head to look. Whereas a whitetails first instinct is to run I would be real hesitant to shoot at a whitetail beyond 50.

Don’t forget to factor in Adrenalin. Anybody can kill foam. Just saying.... not trying to a dick. Obviously closer range is the goal. Looking forward to LDP’s.

Oh absolutely. The situation would have to be right for me to consider an 80 yard poke. The only situation that stands out in my mind is a calm meadow and a feeding bull. At those distances your form has to be perfect and you need time to run through your pre-shot routine of anchor, no torque, centered housing, check level, settle the pin, squeeze. Often a luxury you don't have when the adrenalin is pumping. Hell, just being a bubble off on level can put the arrow a foot or more right or left.
