So there we were, eating dinner in the house on Saturday, when I glanced out the window and spotted a coyote at the top of our (long) driveway. Where it crossed into the trees we have been seeing about 90 rabbits a day, so not surprising that we see one there. I kept an eye out for a few more minutes and it popped out again, then went back into the trees/brush. My hunting gear is still probably 65% packed/boxed. I ran and grabbed the rifle I could find shells for the fastest, which was my .17HMR. Then I ran to the building to look for my FoxPro. It took a minute, but I found it, and luckily it had working batteries. I ran into the yard and sat it on one of my archery targets and went back under the overhang for the building and sat at the picnic table. I started with Cagie Cottontail, and within seconds a coyote popped out of the woods in our back field about 60-70 yards away. It wouldn't stop for a shot, and quickly returned to the woods. I grabbed the remote and changed to MFK's "Table Scraps," which is pups fighting over food. The coyote popped right back out and this time stood still for a split second too long. The 17HMR dropped her like a sack of bricks.
Not a bad first "hunt" at the new place.
