Whats wrong with us

sorry to say that what I think is wrong is that we cannot trust any published data related to cases and deaths associated with Covid 19. for example, how do we know how many of those 142K deaths were actually caused by coronavirus and not just "related" to the death? In my mind, there is a considerable difference. just like here, we do not know how many people around the world have had this and didn't even know it. too much misinformation to take any of it seriously.

I am, however, not sorry to say that I'm not buying it anymore. I'll take it all with a grain of salt as the political end to this pandemic is nowhere in sight, but the social end of it has already begun. y'all keep up the common sense practices to keep yourselves safe, stop watching the fake news, stay away from social media, and we'll all be just fine, eventually.

It's also disproportionately affecting octogenarians and older, people with diabetes, heart disease, and obesity, which we generally lead the world in, so we shouldn't be surprised we're also leading in deaths. Factor in our population size in respect to other countries and the falsity of a lot of the data, again, no surprises here.

How do you identify false data, misinformation and fake news - having a hard time with this - tryn to gather information from as many sources as i can - dang

John Hopkins report ranks the USA 10th in covoid deaths based per 100,000 people - supports you statement - Jesse - UK first - guess some news is reporting the facts but not in a way that truely reflects the situation

Precisely. We have one of the most advanced medical systems in the world which has allowed us to treat and extend the lives of many people with chronic diseases. We're also fatter and more out of shape compared to the rest of the world. in essence we have a more vulnerable population because of our status as a leader. We also have a much much larger population than most countries. Yemen has a population of 30 million and they've had 456 deaths and 1,600 cases. Man! Yemen is kicking covids ass and keeping it under control... Oh wait, what do you mean they've only tested 120 people?? Indonesia has a population similar to Americas. They've only had 91,000 cases compared to our 4.1 million, and only 4k deaths compared to our 145K.. Indonesia is kicking covids ass! Wait they've only done 4,688 tests per million population compared to our 146,101..

We are also a diverse nation of individuals with vast cultural differences and experiences. Political groups have tried to separate everyone into groups or special classes. We have lost the unity of being Americans. When we look at countries like Japan, China, Spain, Germany etc they are not a "melting pot" they subscribe heavily to the idea of national unity and have a sense of being. We've lost a national sense of patriotism mainly due to political divide. When that happens everything becomes an internal "them vs us" issue and we spend more time arguing, posturing, and manning the opposite side than we do tackling the issue.

A small local paper that is doing some true journalism. The test results are staying the same, only the amount of testing is going up, and you wonder why we don’t trust what we are being told.

Yep. There is a massive data collection and representation problem. All of these governmental bodies and doctors must not have taken a statistics class in college. The real failure, in my opinion, is with the CDC. Testing and data collection methods should be standardized and presented in a unified fashion.

On the flip side, how do we know other countries aren't hiding numbers. For some reason so many in the US seem to want those numbers to go up, whereas other countries like China are reluctant to be the leader of the pack and want to look like they have it under control.
