Precisely. We have one of the most advanced medical systems in the world which has allowed us to treat and extend the lives of many people with chronic diseases. We're also fatter and more out of shape compared to the rest of the world. in essence we have a more vulnerable population because of our status as a leader. We also have a much much larger population than most countries. Yemen has a population of 30 million and they've had 456 deaths and 1,600 cases. Man! Yemen is kicking covids ass and keeping it under control... Oh wait, what do you mean they've only tested 120 people?? Indonesia has a population similar to Americas. They've only had 91,000 cases compared to our 4.1 million, and only 4k deaths compared to our 145K.. Indonesia is kicking covids ass! Wait they've only done 4,688 tests per million population compared to our 146,101..
We are also a diverse nation of individuals with vast cultural differences and experiences. Political groups have tried to separate everyone into groups or special classes. We have lost the unity of being Americans. When we look at countries like Japan, China, Spain, Germany etc they are not a "melting pot" they subscribe heavily to the idea of national unity and have a sense of being. We've lost a national sense of patriotism mainly due to political divide. When that happens everything becomes an internal "them vs us" issue and we spend more time arguing, posturing, and manning the opposite side than we do tackling the issue.
