I have a Mossberg 500 Turkey Special, 12 guage, 3" chamber. Last fall, I broke down and finally purchased a cantalever rifle slug barrel with a 3x9 scope, at Dick's. They had it on sale for $170, so I couldn't pass it up. I picked up some Federal sabots with the Barns expander bullets and I was very impressed with the combined performance. 2" groups at 60 yards and the doe that I shot went down on the spot. She got up in a single leap, fell, jumped 2 more times and crashed. The area looked like an O.J. murder scene...nice blood "trail".

Often, I've entertained the thought of a Ruger Bisley Hunter, in .44 Mag. Some day, perhaps.

Gun of choice for deer hunting is a pistol. Mainly a 44 Mag. I started out with a Ruger Redhawk with a 2X power Burris scope with a dot. After 19 deer I sold it and changed to Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter 44 mag with a red dot. Of course I use my S&W Classic Deluxe with a red dot in 44 Mag. I use a lead bullet either a 240 gr or a 310 gr.
When I went to Alaska about 20 yrs ago a friend and I designed the 310 gr bullet made by Lee Precision. Since my son and I are a Lee Dist. I had Lee make the mold up custom to me. It shoots great and carried it in Alaska in brown bear country for 3 weeks. When I returned home from Alaska John Lee left a message for me to call. Lee wanted to change the design to a more normal design. I told them make mine as designed and make your design anyway you want. Lee left as is and it's a great seller for them.
After 22 deer I bought a Ruger Bisley 45LC-45ACP convertable iron sighted pistol and took a nice deer with it.
When health makes it neccesary I use a rem 1100 with a scope.
ML season I had a 45-70 Encore barrel converted with a ML breach for a 45 caliber ML.
Change is good.
