When it all came together...

Looks like a heck of a lot of fun Jesse! I plan to leave the deer alone until muzzy season... I found a patch of wild pheasants and our two GSP are gonna see what that's all about.

Great read and I believe every word you say. It seems like every duck/goose hunter I meet USED to be a serious bowhunter. Congrats and neat pics

When I first started dabbling in waterfowl, I was posting on Ohio Waterfowler some. I remember a few stern warnings that I'd better be careful or I'd give up bow hunting. I scoffed at the time at the absurdity of the idea. However that is not such a far fetched idea now. Being that I live a few miles from the Ohio River, I can hunt WV for cheap and once I have a boat, I can hunt ducks/geese for the better part of deer season. If the deer herd keeps declining and I keep dealing with moron neighbors, I could see me dedicating nearly all my time to waterfowl. When I pulled the trigger once and folded a bird (two different times) with a difficult shot, that feeling was every bit as good as shooting a deer. And I can do that 6 times a day until the end of January if I want. That doesn't count geese!

Is the guy in that picture on the far right standing up in the black hat from the youtube channel Fowled Reality Duck and Goose Hunting? He looks like the exact same guy

HA. Nope. Just a redneck from WV. He's proof I'm not completely against NR hunters. He hunt our farm with me in how season. The guy squatting is one of my oldest friends. We've been buddies for more than half my life. Both beards far surpass mine!

Good stuff Jesse. Great hunts like that one are what keep you going. Make sure you pay attention to all the little subtleties of your hunts, both the good and the bad. Luck is obviously involved but the minor details of how you approach a hunt can make or break you. Learn from your successes and your mistakes.

We are considering a hunt with no decoys this year. Birds like this spot and I honestly think we could be just as successful without decoys. We were going to throw our goose decoys up in the shallow end just to crowd that spot, then leave it wide open by the blind. I'm still learning and this spot is a great teacher. We also have a great idea on where to go on the river based on the birds that bail on our spot and go down in the river. Just need a damn boat!
