Who has shot a deer in the late season?

Still have my buck tag and have been hitting it hard every weekend. I actually rattled in a broken up, what would have been 140 inch 10 pt last week. He was in the snow and I was watching another deer when I looked to my side and there he was at 30yd.

Took this guy in Feb last year:

Gotta love late season. Ive killed a few and filmed a few good kills in the late season. This year was a struggle and I finally killed on 1-1-13..... never give up, where theres food theres deer late in the year.

Since there was high winds this morning, I decided to take my bow for a walk. I was out for about 45 minutes and spotted 2 does. I stalked them for about 30 minutes, until one of them "hawkeyed me" and they decided to get out of dodge. I was never any closer than 70 yards, but at least I seen some deer.

About 3 hours later, I went back to an area that I've put apples down and put out a 50 lb. bag of cracked corn, in a line. The line was about 6" wide by 20' long and to half of it I added some Deer Caine. Since there are turkeys in the area, it will be interesting to see what hits the feed line first. :smiley_chinrub:

Ahhhhh, so close and yet so far. Spent 3 hours in the stand today (tad bit windy out there!). I was just getting ready to head in when I heard footsteps behind me. Turned to see the nice doe I've been seeing on the trail cam followed by the two smaller does that are always with her on the cam. She came within 30 yards but still in the brush so not a clear shot....then she stopped. Stood there for what seemed like eternity then turned away and headed back into the woods.

I'm coated with so much Dead Down Wind AND the wind direction was in my favor....there's no way she caught my scent. I'm thinking she's gotten as big as she is because she has some good female intuition. lol

Typically, I'm done after muzzy, but I'm still out chasing a buck now. I'm about out of time and losing patience with a guy that I am certain doesn't want me to kill this deer. Between preparing for the baby and work, as well as not knowing when he will drop his rack, I'm not sure how many more hunts I will be able to get in.

Hang with it, Greg. The cold temps coming in will cause a lot of deer to be shot over the next few days!

Better luck next time, Jill!

Search Scent Smoker on this site and see what you think! We swear by it...although many different techniques are used, a lot use the SS - and it works!

Thanks for the tip. I had read different articles about smoking but wasn't sure it was legit....after reading the posts on the forum I've decided to give it a try. Ordered one from http://www.scentsmoker.com/main.sc. Hopefully it arrives before 2/3 so I can try it out.

Stick with it Everyone! It ain't over til it's over! Only takes one day to change a whole season.

You will like the S-Smoker Jill. I was one of the skeptical ones and after seeing some things during the trial period......I even have a spare one now.:smiley_crocodile:

It was so windy and loud yesterday, I was losing focus. Instead of having my head on a swivel, I had my head up my ass.

About 3pm I instantly hear loud leaves, look over, and there was a real decent 10 pt pushing 150 trotting thru the woods at 35 yards.

Not sure if he was on the trot thru the entire woodlot or if I spooked him.

With 2 minutes to shooting time, I let my backpack down and there was an antlerless deer closing ground. It spooked off.

My stand site 75% blessing, 25% curse. I have a few pines around me that provide so much cover it can be hard to see them coming from that direction.

Gonna sit today out and let this wind die down.

They are definitely smart. I chased one for quite awhile this year, but never got a shot at her. :smiley_blackeye:
