Why do we say certain things?

Deer are born Late May early June, about 5 months before season. So when season is open they're 2.5 or 3.5. Still stupid though. But a common expression.

From a research standpoint, it’s also how biologists classify deer age, since the majority of age/condition data is collected during deer gun season.

Nowadays I find myself most often just using whole numbers to describe deer. Calling it 3, instead of 3 and a half. Just easier I guess.
