1:00 p.m. Monday, August 12, 2024: 'New Season, new annual hunting journal'

Afternoon everybody!

I thought I'd join in on the fun!

I have no major goals in the works at this time or any expectations either. I'm just looking forward to the new hunting season.

The local deer herd has done well this year so far. Most of last year's bucks are back once again this year, along with a few of the nanny does as well. The number of fawns increased over last by approximately five [5], which is back to normal, pretty much. There are more bucks than does in the nearby woods currently, much like last year at this time, which is different than what it was like back in 2022, 21, 20, 19,18 & 17.
The 2022 local EHD outbreak, along with hunters and nearby deer automobile accidents, those factors I believe have kept the antlerless number down still today within our area, although I also believe we are nearing full carrying capacity for the area relatively soon as well, but not quite yet for this year. If we have another year with no significant issues, then I believe we'll get there for sure next year.

I wish everyone a fun and safe hunting season, and best of luck to you, too!!

A few daylight TC captures from this morning.

I plan on putting an analog TC back there to cover the creek area specifically to catch everything that hits the creek. I'd like to get some better pix of the beavers that are back there. I have a few damns back there currently and some tree work cleanup to do thanks to them. Need to clean a nice lane for the creek blind setup.

We received over an inch of heavy rain shortly before sunset last evening. I don't think I shared any night TC captures yet this year so, I thought I'd go ahead and share 10 choice TC captures from overnight while I await for sunrise while sipping on coffee .

Good morning everyone!

Another real busy morning due to the heavy rain again last night. There are over 150+ TC pix during the [7] seven o'clock hour today. I put them all into 50&30 block gif files below. All in consecutive order by way of time stamp, too. This morning deer activity would be considered a typical morning this time of the year around here when everything is firing on all cylinders. Some years are better than others, but this year is definitely looking quite positive for the deer herd, and hunters. I am satisfied in seeing the progress of these deer and hope to have some fun with family, friends and guests during the new hunting season.

I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!

Take care!!

Temporary TC location that should provide some rather interesting pix over the next few days. I have other plans for its final location though.

Ordered another Tactacam XB that was on sale. Posted the details in the Cellular Cams.. thread.

Attached are more pix from this afternoon. Replenished some corn at the feed sites today.

Love the cool beautiful weather we've been having, too, and so does the wildlife around here lately!

I wanted to include this information inside my journal. Another trail camera added to the arsenal. I like the XB, X and the X 2.0 Tactacams. Those are the models that I use. None of them have been out of service ever since I placed them in the field. They have been operational since day one, 24/7/365. None have failed yet and only a couple minor hiccups with their service early on and that's about it. No regrets going with this solution.

More beaver pix soon, hopefully.
