Wire Haired Dauchund

Got a call to track a womans first shot ever at a deer in Glouster. I was worried when I saw arrow and hit site. He said she smoked a doe but very little blood and arrow was not soaked. Maxx took off pulling good but straight up 3 steep hills w/very minimal blood. Near top of second hill we found a good puddle of blood finally. Maxx took us right and there was something wrong...
I circled back to blood and Maxx started pulling hard uphill and to the left. Blood was a bit more frequent but still very little. At the highest point the deer exploded and there was blood all over every tree in the 5' vicinity! It looked like a freaking bomb went off! And of course the deer went down the cliff on the other side... Probably 50-60 foot down! Maxx took off and lost his footing... I tried helping but lost mine too... So "sliding board" down the hill we go again! When we stopped, we were at the deer! Blood was pouring out the entrance and exit holes.
The only thing I can figure out, is the 200 yd that deer continued to do uphill, blood leaked inside until the deer leveled off and it looked like it it was spraying from a hose!

This deer is #70 for Maxx and he's now in the Professional Category!
GOOOBOY MAXX... GOOOBOY!

NEVER SAY A WOUNDED DEER WILL NOT GO UPHILL! ITS A WIVES-TALE FOR SURE!

Congrats to you both! Is a lot of work to get a dog to that level of performance no matter what their pedigree or their job is.

Does this mean Maxx will be an even bigger asshole now? Asking for a friend😉

🤣 Actually, he is radical at the deer. But has mellow'd out in so many other ways. He was actually in the back of a side by side, stretched out on a kid and his mom's lap, letting them scratch his belly and everything. And that was right after having to call the track.
BUT... he is a wire hair and will randomly "pick a side" 🤣🤣🤣

We were called out behind two drones. They were there for over an hour before we got there. Maxx got right busy with it and matched their last blood. We then did about 250-300 yds with no visible blood at all. Drones used Maxx, flew out ahead and found buck in a bed w/arrow tight/high in shoulder. We were called off to wait. The one operator says "I'm gonna buzz that deer and get him up!" I pulled hunter out behind truck and advised him to leave that deer alone until tomorrow.

We'll know more later.

Oh yea... had #2 verified on cam today. Took 11 days before he showed again.
