Tracked one at an orchard yesterday. 250ish yards the buck got up and we all seen it (Maxx was freakin out). We froze and watched it walk distressed and backed out. Told the hunter and his girlfriend we would have to come back after dark.
After dark we ran into a hunter that was coming out of the orchard who tried to divert us and tell us the deer was fine with its head up and then it went on over into the neighbor's property. When I told him we definitely needed to track it to the line, He said maybe I'll just go down ahead of the dog and bring my deer stand out so I can hunt somewhere else tomorrow. I told him don't get in front of my dog it's hunter harassment. Later we figured it out, he was caught over top of the neighbor's corn pile and had moved his stand over onto the no trespassing property! While hearing this story from the neighbor, Maxx decided to have a look around and about pulled my arm off! He ran down into the creek bed and ripped the tail off in record time!
Deer was 1/2 stiff, So there was no way it was alive and had his head up while that hunter was back there. And to think it was the kid's very first deer ever and this guy was trying to screw him out of it.
OK. Some of you all may remember the dead end track and the guy didn't want to get permission the other day?
I did a track on that farm and got to asking questions... and they found the dear dead right where I told the guy it would be! 100 yds ahead! The hunter told me they went in there looking for it...
We got his rack back to him but Maxx got screwed out of the recovery!
