Any suggestions? Or anyone have one that your kid grew out of? I've got a boy turning 10 in a couple weeks and put one on his list...so I'm searching and know exactly nothing about bows, let alone kids ones. This won't be a hunting bow, but if he gets hooked, I don't want him learning bad habits.

Knowing him, a non-wheeled bow is probably what he's thinking. I haven't had a chance to chat with him yet.
 
Mathews Genesis if he is real small. If you are looking for something which can grow with him, Diamond has made several. We have a Diamond Razor's Edge. Could be wrong on the model name. You can change weight and draw lengths without a press. Huge range of draw lengths and weight ranges.
 
take him to an OSTA shoot. they give away kids bows and arrows. instruction is free, too. kids love stick bows. at least I've never seen one that didn't.
 
Check with Cotty. I sold him Austin's first bow for one of his boys. I'm not sure if he has outgrown it yet or not. It was a great first bow with lots of room to grow.



 
Mason has had a Darton Ranger, Mission Craze, and PSE Spider. He liked the Darton the best. They are all similar with draw length and weight adjustments. Good bows, all of them.
 
Thanks for all the replies so far, I'm just following along reading. Steve or Mike, what is the bow and model? That seems to have made its rounds and held up.

The bear cruzer would be a good one that could grow with him. 5-70 lb draw weight and 12-30 inch draw length. I know you can change draw weight without a press, not sure about length. Right now it's $50.00 off at field and stream and if you sign up for their email list they'll send you a coupon for 15% off your next purchase which I believe you can use on sale items.
 
My son has the Diamond Infinite Edge and my daughter just got the Mission Craze II. They're both really good quality first bows for them to grow with with huge ranges of adjustment for drawn length and poundage. Hell, they both adjust up to 70 pounds so they could use them forever. You can't go wrong with either, although I'd give the edge to Mission.
 
I bought my step son, who is nine, the mission craze II for christmas. It seems a bit heavy for him but he is on the small side for his age. I like the amount of adjustments from 15# to 70# draw so this bow should last him for a long time. I need to get it set up for him after school is over so we can shoot all summer together. I do not think he will be able to pull the min requirement of 40# for a compound bow but at least he will be shooting with me.

This is exactly how Austin started. He got the bow when he was 8. By the time he was 10 he was hunting with it.

You would be surprised if he shoots alot, how quick his draw weight will increase.

Man I miss those days!! Enjoy em while you got em fellas, they grow up quick.

'My son has a Diamond Infinite Edge. It is a nice bow and isn't overly expensive. Like you said with the adjustment they can shoot them forever.
 
Another vote for the Infinity Edge. I got Diamond Atomics for my girls and wish I would have went with the Infinity after I saw one. They would have lasted them longer.
 
He kept going back and forth with what he wanted, so we didn't spend the big money at this point. We will see how well he takes to it. He doesn't even want to do the OSTA shoot anymore...

Anyways, this was his morning.
